I was just curious what everyone prefered for their personal defense ammo. I know you should use what works the best in your own weapon but I was curious which type everyone uses. I am probably going to try Hornaday TAP 'For Personal Defense.' My personal carry is soon to be a Ruger
P345 in .45 ACP. She's on layaway and waiting for me as I type this. Any recommendations on grain size would be great as well. I know I didn't include all the good ones like Hydra-Shocks, Gold Dots, etc. but I made poll too short. I did put up a new poll with more options titled "What kind of ammo do you use with your CCW? (Take 2)" Thanks!

You have Magtech, Tap, and no Gold Dot?

Speer Gold Dot here.

I prefer factory loadings but I'm currently carrying 9MM 124gr Double Tap Gold Dots.

I carry Golden Sabers 'cause I liked the results of Goldenloki's tests using the KelTec P11. I'm considering going to a +P round now that I carry a more controllable Ruger P95 now.

My CHL instuctor ordered the class to use HydraShok as it's the best bullet hands down for the .45, so don't bother posting anything else about .45 ACP.

Right now I have Golden Saber's but I did pick up me a box of Hornady Tap just to try out and see.

oh, I also carry a Ruger P345 IWB and it just melts away under my shirt. :) And I'm a really skinny guy. LOL...

I carry Speer Gold Dots.

As for what's best...? I dunno, I'd have to shoot a bad guy with every available load to figure that one out.

Of the ones you listed I chose the Golden Saber. I like it in small 45acp pistols and pocket sized 357 magnums.

Mostly though I carry either Winchester Ranger or Speer Gold Dot depending on caliber.

Recently I've become interested in the Corbon DPX and Taurus HEX loads. The Barnes copper bullet they both use is an interesting idea. Anybody heard any real world street use reports of either?

Remington Golden Sabers...

In the following calibers: 230grn .45ACP, 165grn .40 S&W, 125grn +P .38 Special.

I have heard nothing but good things from several LEOs who have first hand knowledge of the Golden Saber's performance in actual shootings. I also like the accuracy of the Golden Sabers in all calibers I have shot.

90 gr Hydra Shoks in the .380,135 gr +P Gold Dots in the .38's,158 gr Nyclads in .357,124 gr Gold Dots in the 9mm's,165 or 180 gr Gold Dots in the .40,115 gr Cor-Bons in .357SIG and 230 gr Hydra Shoks in the .45.

9mm Federal Hydrashoks or Remington 9BPs.

.38 Special Winchester Silvertips or 158gr LSMWC.

CorBon traditional hollowpoints, 125 grain .38 special +P. CorBon claims 1125 FPS from a 2" barell, but I'd need a chrono to verify.

Federal +P Hydrashoks in my S&W 638
Federal Hydrashoks in my CZ75B .40 S&W
Federal Hydrashoks in my CZ75B 9mm
Handloaded Hornady 230gr XTP in my Sig P220

In 230 gr 45acp and 127(?) gr +p 9mm I use the Winchester Ranger SXT's.

I .38spl I use the Speer Gold dot in 135gr +p.
