What new 9mm?

I have six 9mm pistols. My CZ75 is my favorite. There are many compact varieties. Before I got mine I wondered why people were so enthusiastic about them. Now I know.

Consider the Walther PPQ M2, which arguably has one of the best triggers of any of the current group of polymer service pistols – with a short takeup, a crisp break, a strong audible and tactile reset, and a short reset travel. The rest of the polymer guns, the Glocks, M&P's, HK's, Ruger SR's, etc., will each fall short in one of the above trigger characteristics, while the PPQ excels in all of them.
Totally agree with all the praise for the Walther PPQ M2. I shot my friend's, and immediately wanted one.

Then I came across the Canik TP9SA, which dang near replicates the PPQ trigger for half the price. I think it's one of the best deals on the market right now, but I'm not sure it's small enough for the OP, and some hate the decocker on a SA pistol... I still carry it.

I have several Glocks, and put 4 guns on the counter in the gun shop, the 19, the sig 320, Vp9, and PPQ, I just kept dry firing them and resetting the trigger, "the store clerk encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to", so I did. It came down to closing my eyes with each gun, and really concentrating on the gun. The PPQ was the one that rang my bell, I actually felt a real difference, and the Reset was even a larger factor. There was hardly any movement required to reset the trigger.
Now I know it's different with ammo in the gun, but this was as close as I was going to get to anyone letting me take 4 new guns and dry firing them like this. The Sig I must say, was a very close second. The 19 was the worse of the group, but I like glocks because of their reliability and tactile reset anyway. The PPQ was by far the cleanest one of the group, I could not feel when the striker was about to drop. And the reset again was almost non existent.

I am going to get another 9mm, primarily for concealed carry and secondarily for home defense. I currently have a 9mm Sig Sauer P320 Compact. Some of the criteria for the handgun is as follows:

...

Based on your criteria I would get a Sig Sauer P320 Compact.

Seriously, you are already familiar with them, you won't need to spend a lot of time retraining, and most importantly you didn't mention anything you felt was missing, or capabilities you wanted to gain.

I would take a step back and ask what capabilities you feel could be better. Ammo capacity, maybe some nuance of concealment, whatever is important. Then ask yourself if the gap between what you have and what you want is equipment or training. If it is equipment, now you have a concrete standard to apply...if the Sig is too heavy get something lighter, if it is too fat get something thinner, etc..

Or buy one of each. That's probably more fun.

I can vouch for the goodness of the G19, PPQ, and P99 AS.

If you go for a PPQ and its remarkable trigger, and think it likely the unusual DA/SA P99 AS will get your attention, buy the M1 PPQ, not the M2, so you can have interchangeable mags.

I have to put another vote in for CZ. Both the PCR and the P-01 can be had for well under your budget and are great handling guns. I have the P-01 but have often thought about getting a PCR as well.

My wife has a glock 19 that she enjoys but my hands just seem to lock into all my CZ's so much better and more naturally.

Another vote for the CZ's mentioned. In 9mm, I have the PCR and it is every bit as good or better than my H&K, Sig, SA pistols. Same goes for their other calibers (I have the 97BD). Great firearms at great prices.
I just acquired my fifth CZ pistol, a Pre-B 75. I also have the new 97B, and love it. My PCR is my carry pistol. It is one of the last guns I would ever sell. It is just as accurate as my full size 75B somehow. Haven't shot the Pre-B yet, but expect the same excellent results.

I have a 19, FNS 9 compact, P07 and CZ 75 compact. All are reliable and I shoot them well, and much of this should come down to your personal preference. The FNS has quickly becoming one of my favorites as it's the most comfortable for me to carry out of the 4.

I did change the trigger on the 19 to a Phantom trigger from rockyourglock.com, as the stock Glock trigger does not work for me.

Century Arms Canik TP9SA is the best deal right now. They also have a $25 rebate right now which brings it at $300 in most places. I carry a Glock 19 every day and its basically the same size, the grip is slightly longer on the Canik.

Usually I would suggest a G19

But lately a friend has been letting me test drive his Springfield XDS 9mm, the one with the 3.3" barrel. I have to say that so far I am quite impressed, to the point that I might put the G19 away for a little while.

The Springfield XDS - 9mm doesn't carry as many rounds as my G19 but it still holds 10 and for concealed carry purposes that is enough for me. (I was never interested in any of the 6+1 9mm single stack pistols because, heck . . . I might just as well carry a revolver.)

The XDS is also smaller than the G19 but not excessively, and that little bit of difference between the two in size has made an exponential difference in the ease of carrying the XDS. I feel much more comfortable with XDS.

I also am LOVING the grip safety on the XDS. Here in ALaska I often carry in my coat pocket. I never felt unsafe with the Glock but it often crossed my mind that the only thing between me and an accidental discharge was one snag on the trigger. With the XDS in the same coat pocket it would require two snags pulling in opposite directions. But, like I said, I never felt like the Glock was unsafe but with the grip safety on the XDS an accidental discharge via a snagging set of car keys doesn't even cross my mind.

I still enjoy my Glocks but the XDS 9mm might, maybe, possibly be preferred for concealed carry. Currently I don't have the money.

At that price point, I would get a stainless CZ-75B and a couple of extra mags.......because some day real soon $750 won't get you a gun made of all steel.

I'd look at the fns9c.
I have an fns40 that I love, but the full size grip is tough to conceal. I had a Glock 26 but while it concealed well, I didn't like how small the grip was without adding an extension and tad thick.

The fns c models are a tad shorter in the barrel and grip between the Glock 19 and 26. They sport a 3.6" barrel and a grip that holds 12 in the mag in the 9mm and 10 in the .40.

I just picked up the fns40c last week and it's perfect for me. Comfortable in hand with the pinky extension, can easily be made more concealable with the mag without the extension, and can bring full size firepower with the sleeved magazine. On top of that, I have 3 full size that will run in the gun.

I seriously might look at one in 9mm to go with it. I simply went with the 40 because I prefer it for carry and already had mags that will fit the gun.

I think I paid $500 after tax.

Decide what "manual of arms" you want. Do you want a DA/SA trigger? A striker-fired trigger? SAO? DAO? A manual safety? A decocker? Pick that first, then look at options that satisfy it.

Given the listed criteria I'd probably go for a M&P9c or an SR9c. I don't have the compact version of either, but I do have the full-sized variants and both are good guns. I also have the Glock 17 and though there's nothing wrong with it per sé, I'd carry the M&P or Ruger before the Glock. They just feel better in the hand.

1. Must be a currently produced 9mm Luger handgun.

2. Price be no more than 750 dollars (not including tax). If it lists for 900, for example, but can generally be had for 750 or less, then that is the same thing for me.

3. Ideally it will be around the size of a Glock 19 or my Sig Sauer P320 Compact but certainly nothing significantly smaller or larger than those two handguns.

Based on those criteria, what 9mm would you get? Thank you.
Please forgive me if I missed something in the thread, but I just have to ask . . . Given the sections that I've underlined, is there a reason not to just get a Glock 19? You've already got a P320, so I can see wanting something different. Do you already have a G19?

That said, there are lots good choices in this size range in 9mm.

I bought a Kahr K9 this year and can't say I have had a complaint or a problem. Have shot it in BUG division IDPA and it has done fine. I bought mine used for $355 on the computer, I don't pay much attention to new handguns.

No, I do not own a G19. Currently the 9mm P320 Compact is my only handgun. If I get a Glock 19, are there any modifications to it that you recommend?

There are lots of things you can do to “upgrade” a G19. But I would leave it be until I had a chance to get to know it. After a few thousand rounds you might find you don't need to modify it after all.
