I know there's a lot of parents & grandparents out there.
So tell me what was you kids first gun?

And what was the occasion, birthday, Christmas etc?

Please post pictures (with the proud owner) if you got um.

Do BB guns count?

Sons first rifle.

My son has a .22 bolt action in my cabinet. He'll get it when he's responsible enough, but he's only a year and a half old now. Gonna be a while. I get points for pre-emptive purchase, though. I bought it a week before he was born.

Just last week took my oldest son to Gander Mtn to get him his first pistol, a Beretta U22. He's proven himself safe and proficient and he saved enough $$ to buy it himself. He shopped several stores, did research on the internet and made a sound decision. I'm proud of him.:)

My son's first gun will be a single-shot 16-gauge Model 37 Winchester. I shot my first squirrel with it, and my Dad shot his first squirrel with it. It was also the first deer gun (with slugs) that my Dad carried, and the first gun I was allowed to carry when I learned to deer hunt 25+ years later.

No pictures yet though. In spite of his impatience, my son won't get to actually carry it until this fall, and only then if he continues to impress me with his safe attitude and responsibility when we go shooting.

Double barreled .410 in a year or so:)

First long gun given to him from me was a Winchester 1400 shotgun.

First handgun given to him from me was a Bersa Mini-Firestorm .45

First firearm purchased by him, a Springfield Mil-Spec .45

no children here, but my first were:

10th Birthday: Ugartechea Double Barrel .410
16th Birthday: Anshutz .22

No kids....

so I get to hog them all to myself.......When I pass on I will probably dole them out to my neices and nephews........that is, if any of them are not in prison........chris3

My first rifle was a flintlock, so I decided to start my boys (ages 6 and 7) with muzzleloaders also, maybe make it a family tradition. So I got them a matching pair of .36 percussion small game rifles. Problem is, it will still be a while before they're big enough to shoot them, so for now I've started teaching them basic shooting skills and safety with a pair of Daisy Buck lever action air rifles.

My sons first real firearm (other than BB) was a Chipmunk 22 that I bought for them for Christmas when my oldest was 5 and the youngest was 3. Great little gun. After they out grew it (or graduated to bigger things) I passed it on to friends of mine's kids who were small for their age. Its loaned out to the 4th kid now with the understanding that they take care of it and when they outgrow it I get it back to pass on to someone else, eventually to my grandkids. rugerman

I haven't decided yet. My oldest son will be three in April. My youngest child will be born in August (ask me tomorrow if it's a boy or a girl). ;)

He already tells me that he wants his own gun. "Want mine own gun, daddy."

MY first gun was a Stevens .22/.410 over/under. I have considered making that his first gun as well, but it really needs some work (new firing pins, new stock, etc.).

The second option is either the Mossberg .410 pump that my dad bought me when I was 13 or a nice little .22 semi-auto that my grandfather gave me.

The third (and most likely) option is that I will buy him some sort of .22 rifle and/or .22 pistol to start out with.

Obviously, he's not quite there yet so I have some time to figure that out. In the meantime his "own gun" is a little cap gun revolver that he picked out at Sportsman's Warehouse when I bought my last Glock. We're still working on the rules of gun safety... ;)

Since I have 2 girls, and the oldest is all girl and wants nothing to do with guns, I will speak for my dad.

8th birthday he gave me an H&R 20ga single shot (same for younger brother on his 8th birthday)

12th Remington 1100 12ga

14th Remington 742 30-06

Hope my girls give me grandsons and I'm still in good enough health to teach them to hunt, shoot, and enjoy the outdoors.

For his 15th. birthday I just bought my son a Mossberg 500 20gauge. He is itching to go Turkey hunting with me this spring! I considered a bantam and they are a good deal, but he is tall and has long arms for his age, the regular 500 fit and balanced much better.

My daughter thought the gift was ''awsome", and is formulating what I might get her for her birthday.

ruger mark2, 22 caliber at age 13. now m1 carbine, 30 caliber at age 14, + m1 garand which he handles surprisingly well

Both kids learned on an old Stevens single-shot .22. Daughter's first was my old Marlin model 60, sons' was a Marlin 75C. Both given on birthdays, both still in service.

my Grand daughtert is due in August.
Her first gun will be my Remington ScoreMaster .22.

I've had it for over 50 years.

Then I'll get a nice collection, all off paper, for her.

None of my five kids were even slightly interested in guns, despite the fact my wife and I were both competitive shooters (I still am) and there were always guns around the house. I did get one son a Remington .22 rifle when he was 15 or so. We only went to the range a few times. After a few years he traded it for an electric guitar.

My daughter started with a Marlin .22 bolt action and once she was a good enough shot we moved onto a Ruger Mark II. She loves shoothing them both.

Out at the range the first time this new range master was there he saw me hand my daughter her pistol and mags and ammo. He starts coming our way. Trying not being real obvious but still keeping an eye on my daughter. She loads the mags and lays them down. Put on hearing protection and I lean up on the post behind her and say go on and load it and fire. (There were clay pidgeons at 25 yards) Range master was right beside us when she loaded it and started to fire. His jaw hit the ground when all he saw was little pieces of broken clay pidgeons flying all over. He said he wished half of their conceal carry students could shoot that good and walked away not giving us another look.

My 7 year old got this for Christmass -

Her older brother purchased a P11 when he turned 21 and I gave my 870 riot gun to him.

No kids, but I got together with a bunch of "uncles" when our buddy was going to have a kid.

They donated cash and I did the fetching and building. The keys were handed over on a toy rifle the day his son was born. There was a hand built green ordnance case waiting in the kid's room when they returned from the hospital. In the case (locked with a tiny version of a military brass lock) was a stainless synthetic Henry singleshot 22, a collection of ammo, kid size hearing and eye protection, and a boresnake.
