A Beretta 92 in either 9MM or 40.cal with a 15 shot magazine period.? I carried this gun for 25 yrs while working in NYC in the Private Security Industry.? Mine was a 9MM as the 40.cal was not around back in the day.?

I work in a Gun Shop. I carry what I always carry, what I shoot most, and what I shoot well. I carry Two 357 Snubs. Ten shots of 357 and reloads works for me.

I love .45 and shoot it well so +1 for the full size .45 with whatever modern hp it feeds well, open carry for quick access & a pocket snubbie in .38+p, I like hornady critical defense in both rounds personally. A couple of ones I love are the cz97bd, xdm .45, the sig 220.

These are all very soft shooters and accurate, especially the CZ. Regardless, in any caliber or model, just make sure you run a good bit of your chosen ammo through it to make sure they cycle consistently. The CZ can be finicky with wide gap hp's for example..

And a 18"- 20" max barrel length 12 or 20 gauge behind the counter, out of sight with an extended mag tube filled with 2 3/4" o or oo buck. find out what ammo brand patterns tight in it.. many folks, including myself find the federal 2 3/4" 00 low recoil rounds to be excellent or the federal flite control ( theses two may have the same design just different powder??).

I agree that practice, training, mindset and shot placement are the most import things.

It would be wise to think outside high capacity or large caliber "box" on this one.

Not to be contentious, but why? I have stated my opinions earlier as to weapons, but I don't understand your statement.

Similar to a home defense scenario you control a lot of the fighting elements before the fight. Make sure you use those that you do control to maximum advantage for the coming fight, or potential fight.

Of course strangers are allowed on the premises in a business. Allow for that, ahead of time, which is a nice way of saying prepare your ground and tactics.

Caliber and weapon generally is not important within reason. Just know how to use them. Use your advantages and prepare for your disadvantages, that would include weapons selection and locations. Even prepared fighting positions that don't look like they are what they are, would be a nice touch if possible.

Doing everything necessary all at one time is usually not very practical. Prioritize based on realistic probabilities and prepare accordingly. I would recommend to start with a couple quality training courses.

I am not up to date, but there used to be a few schools offering specialized training to "Store owners". That would be ideal. Take more than one. No one school/trainer knows it all, no matter what they think. Take the best from several and amalgamate it with your own abilities and situation, and with the "stew" you will create, apply it liberally.

Don't forget medical training.

Prepare for the good fight.

Good luck.

I completely agree with having at least a loaded shotgun under the counter. I personally would use at least a 00 buck shot if not 000. No unnecessary spread and crazy knockdown power. Your Sig is plenty good for SD in my book, just might want to weigh the benefits of open carry (faster draw time) vs concealed. Personally I would want them to see that I'm carrying, may cause them to rethink their actions.

If open carry is the option you choose, I would strongly recommend the use of and practice with a high quality retention holster.

Presently I use and recommend the Safariland ALS series (6377/6378, the 78 comes with both paddle and belt loops, users choice). Very reasonably priced, and also the ALS guard is available to increase retention another level for IIRC $14.00 and you only have to bolt it on. I really like this for open carry, which I do not often do or use.

Been carrying Concealed for so many years (started in the late 70's) that open carry just doesn't work for me, most of the time.

Good luck.

I advocate for a layered approach to defense. Start with a sign at the door which reminds people to watch their actions and their attitude and that they are being recorded on CCTV.

Next, you should have a loaded shotgun mounted on the wall behind the counter as asecond reminder to be nice, but it also serves as a more visible threat and as an easily accessible weapon.

Next, open carry a handgun. It doesn't matter so much what it is so long that it is big, powerful, and you can shoot it well.

Next, wear some hidden body armor under your clothing. Class II should be adequate.

Next, have another sign by the counter that restates the whole theme that one should behave themselves for they are being watched and no funny business will be tolerated.

Lastly, conceal a second effective handgun you shoot well.

That was probably a lot more than you were calling for.

Now if it were me, I wouldn't be above keeping a very visible black rifle within arm's reach, posting signs, and having CCTV as well as keeping an M1911 on my hip and wearing some body armor. Hopefully, nobody would dare do anything, but if they chose to proceed anyway despite all the warnings, then they really have it coming.

Since we are talking about handguns the choice of world elite in no particular order includes: SIG-Sauer, Glock and Heckler & Koch.

Which units carry these? I promise I'm not trying to prove you wrong as I believe it, I'm just curious as to who it is?
The Polish police forces will carry Walther P99 because certain components like barrels are made at Radom Poland. I think elite formations use Glocks, but I could be wrong.

I'm not seeking a fight. I'm just stating what I know. The list of users for each pistol is longer than I am showing here, but I only gave users for whom at least the branch of service that uses each handgun. I am not including nations that issue these handguns unless the group that uses it is identified. The M1911 was not listed for Marine Force Recon because MFR uses MEU(SOC) Pistol, which is a derivative of the M1911, but is not the same weapon.

adequate trainings along with a proper function glock 357 that your carrying is more than enough to do the job. It might help to add a laser max also if your really stressed over the issue.

A Special Weapons SW-5, G36 Assault Rifle, G3 with a starlight scope, Tactial Golf Cart modified to mount two surplus Shrike launchers .300 Win Mag H&R single shot rifle, and lots and lots of Level III trauma plates duct taped to my body.

I wonder if anyone will get that reference^ :D

I would just carry my XD-40 for my handgun of choice.

Who robs a Pawn Shop? Around here they're staffed by able-bodied gun enthusiasts who are always carrying concealed and tend to be scattered throughout the store... not to mention some portion of the customers being the same. It's about the LAST place the scuzbuckets decide to push their luck.

Carry whatever you usually carry on pavement.

When I worked in a convenience store I carried a Glock 19, loaded with 124-grain Federal Hydra-Shoks, and carried a spare magazine loaded with the same. The reason I carried that particular round is simply because that’s what the stores around here commonly sold (well, that and varieties of ball).

But since I worked in a convenience store, often at night, and always alone at night, I took a few measurements inside the store from my usual positions to those at which I most commonly initially encountered customers, then practiced a lot at the local range from ridiculously close (over-the-counter distances), to most common (about 10 to 15 feet), to most extreme (about 30 feet). I also practiced with single and multiple targets (two, since that’s what the range could accommodate), doing the latter because most guys who cased the store did so in pairs.

The range master was kind enough to let me work from the holster, and to incorporate basic movement. I practiced while wearing the same kinds of attire I wore at work, using the exact same carry setup.

I wish all convenience store clerks could carry, but I know that most are prohibited by corporate policy.

I heard of one store clerk down here in Texas with a CHL who stopped an armed robbery by shooting and killing two shotgun armed turds with his .45. He was not charged criminally but was fired on the spot by corporate.

To keep this post thread related, .45s work in pawn shops too :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
