If you were to design a new cartridge for concealed carry!

I would just build a gun around 7.62 tokarev or 32 NAA. They are what makes sense even though they aren’t very popular.

^This. Norinco makes a modern 7.62x25 with a 10-round magazine, and can you believe they import them to Canada but aren't available in the USA???

Lehigh Defense bullets aren’t working?
What about the poly bullets?

We can't know if they are working unless enough of them get used against man or beast.
And few will take the chance of using something without a track record.

The Norinco is a stretched copy of SIG P226, in a free market it would have a regular magazine, 15 rounds or more.

I see a few saying it has already been done, in most cases yes but most just dimensionally. A company cannot hotrod a .38S&W, which could easily be loaded to 9X19 specs or close but won’t happen because of 100 year old guns around. Same can be said for .44 Russian and Special, quite a few others. Rounds like the 7.62 Takorov could be worked with as it’s a high pressure round. Probably be a winner with a good bullet design. A supped up .25 could be cool for compact guns. Anything would be an improvement on the .25 ACP which was designed as a .22 LR that functioned in a semi auto.

My shooting partner recently designed a new cartridge mostly for our 1911s we call the .45 OMC (Old Man Cartridge.) He is almost 80 with bone on bone issues in his shooting wrist and full power .45 ACPs cause him a lot of pain, so he downloaded his handloads about 1.2 or 1.3 grains and now he can shoot a couple boxes mostly pain free. Still very effective to boot. The concept has been done countless times before but since when has that stopped gunmakers from slapping a new name on an old cartridge?

I'm still waiting for the 10mm GAP (aka 10x18, 10mm SNU "Short N Useless" or 10mm STANEP). It would launch 125 grain bullets at 650 fps for those occasions when you just want to scare the raccoons out of the barn. With a Power Factor of 81 and able to drum up 117 ft•lbs of energy, it'll be in the same class as many 25s and 32 ACPs but capable of throwing bigger bullets!

Also on the drawing board is the 426 HEMI which will fill the gap between 44 Spl and 44 Mag for the non reloader and it has a Cool name to boot.

Finally, it's the .333 Super Special because you can't have enough lucky 3's in the name. This will finally be the bridge between 32ACP and 38 Special, at least that's what the marketing hype will claim.

... I wonder how many people will take me seriously

I’d take the 25acp and increase the case length slightly and push it to 1200-1400 fps.

Bingo. 25 Super without a rim so it could be easily double stacked. Put it in something like a Keltec p32 or LCP. 12-15 rounds of 25Super that recoil impulse similar to something like a 32acp. Nice firepower for a true pocket auto. Easy to shoot well etc.

Most the bigger bore stuff has been done to death. 25 about as small as you can go and still have a primer.

Exactly, the older I get the more concerned I get about firing rapidly and accurately and the less concerned I get with diameter and depth of the hole. The standard 25acp is just not quiet enough.

Yeah I don't really see any big market gaps from 9mm and up, but 25 and 32 could really use some modernizing now that we can build tiny locked breach pistols. They went a little too far with the 30 super carry.

LOL! This whole discussion has been settled many years ago..9mm Parabellum in an auto and .38 special in a small revolver....NO handgun calilber is magic...other than a .44 mag...No hoodlum wants to be shot with anything! The most important factor is to "have-a-gun" when you need it and be able to shoot it effectively within 21 feet!

I'm going with a Rimmed 10mm or commercially available 41 special with similar ballistics to the 10mm Auto.
Made available in a L frame and GP100 revolver.

A resurgence of the 357 sig available in a M&P Shield +, Hellcat, P365 size pistols would be nice :D

Why would a police agency adopt a subcompact CCW pistol?
Also to be fair, the only 30sc I would entertain would be in a full sized gun, or something in the P229 size. The increased capacity and reduced recoil are what I would want (obviously) and that is negated in a smaller gun, I am aware I am not the norm in this.

I’m not that fond of the shield plus or shield EZ so until some other manufacturer picks it up it’s kind of a non starter for me. If S&W put it in a CSX or if ruger put it in a max 9 I would probably buy both. Unless someone else picks it up it looks like it’s dying on the vine though. I’m not really interested in it for self defense, just as a plinker and maybe for small game around the farm.

Like I said earlier in this thread I think they badly misjudged the market in trying to make a 9mm replacement. I think they should have been making a 380 acp replacement.
