Whats the cheapest gun you've ever bought?

For me, it would have to be two M1 Carbines for $139 each back in '93. The cheapest would actually be a CVA Plainsman blackpowder rifle for $70, but after sending it back to the factory for some work, I've got $115 in it......Oh, I forgot about my Ruger 10/22.....$79 back in 1982. :D

my buddy got an AR-15 20" bbl, for $200!!!!! Brand New condition. apparently his friends dad died and he was selling his guns. Then besides, that he got a mint condition 1903 springfield with the stock scope for 150 bucks!!!! :cuss: Im never around for these deals

5x $15 .410 Enfields early this or late last year, memory fails on the specifics.

About a month ago, I wandered through Sprawl-Mart late one night, and saw some shotguns on clearance. I picked up a 12 gauge Winchester 1300 for $125.00, a 20 gauge Winchester 1300 compact for $75, and a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 youth for $50. I had to show up early the next day to buy them, since they couldn't sell them at the late hour the night before. They had been transferred in from a store in California, and mixed up in their inventory, causing them to miss several markdowns. $250 for 3 shotguns is a pretty good deal if you ask me.

SOG used to sell cracked stocked turks for 27.50. With Gorilla glue and a little work I converted a ton of them into nice little elk rifles for folks. That was the genisis of Bear Gulch.

Back around '95 or '96, I purchased a Universal M1 Carbine for with a busted trigger guard and a tampered with sear for $25. Recently purchased a new trigger housing for $25, making the total $50. :neener: Next in line would be my Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44mag with leupold base and rings for $250 from a co-worker, purchased in 1998. Lastly would be my Savage model 112 FV tactical rifle, customer ordered at Wal-Mart and never picked up, marked down to $240 + $19.80 tax for a grand total of $259.80. The Savage was purchased on 10/04/97. :D

bought a jennings .22 w/ broken grips and missing safety for $25 (even that was too much) gave it to my friend for his birthday as a joke. i wrapped it in about ten pounds of duct tape and newspaper.

Bought a reloading press kit a while back, never got around to using it. Now, with the new munchkin around, I barely have time to shoot, let alone reload. Traded the stuff to my buddy for his unissued Bulgie Makarov. Now waiting for him to start reloading so I can look for a K-31. ;)

Cheapest guns !!!

I bought an old Iver Johnson 12ga. shotgun (single shot) for $20. and put and old GI slip on kick pad that I had kicking around. I bought it to shoot a huge amount of steel ball bearings i had acquired. I was going to shoot it to destruction, ruin the barrel, etc. But I tried it out with some old left over lead shotgun shells, and I can hit better with it than any other shotgun I've ever owned. I guess its got perfect fit for me. :)

I purchased a Ruger Bear cat 22 handgun for $58, back in about 1972, and still have it and Will never let it go. Great little gun to take when I go fishing or just "woods bumming". Bought it for my wife but she's never gotten into shooting. Oh well her lose and my gain!!! :)

Back in '72 I took two watches over Xmas for a guy in another duty section, and he "sold" me a little Colt J-Frame airweight for $10. I "think" it was basically new in the box... It's somewhere in the back of the safe.

A CBC 12 ga single from K-Mart for $28, circa 1985 or so. Last I saw of them they were going for over double that about 5 years later. WHAT AN INVESTMENT! ;)

Still have it and it still remains unfired. I'll bet that bad boy is worth about 65 bucks by now! :D

Then besides, that he got a mint condition 1903 springfield with the stock scope for 150 bucks!!!

You mean a 1903 Sniper for $150 :what: You realize that those are going for $3000+ today?

Mine is a 91/30 and a M95 Steyr for $70 each at Dunhams.

jefnvk, the 1903A3 is the aperture-sighted version. The sniper version is the '03A4 on which the front and rear sights have been removed and replaced with a scope (which I don't recall the specifics on right off).

I've heard two sets of opinions on '03 and '03A3. One opinion is the '03 has really good fine sights. The other is that the '03A3 having the aperture rear sight makes it the better version, the aperture being easier to see.

Some interesting stories - I suppose the older you are the cheaper the price so here is a few that sorta tell my age. ( & I'm not THAT old !)

1.) 1903A3 still in cosmo from the army surplus store near where I took my Physical. $25.00
2.) S&W .38spl. M&P from a nearby towns police office when they upgraded. $15.00
3.) Double side by side 12 ga. with smokeless steel barrels and exposed hammers , One of my first shotguns $10.00
4.) Herters FN Mauser barreled action in 7mm mag. & 85% finished stock to fit it. On closeout $25 for the barreled action and $10 for the stock. Total of $35 into the gun

A Sig 220 .45 with Trijicons, for the princely sum of 1 dollar American.

It was sitting in our company safe for over a year. We had sent it back to the factory because the owner had squibbed the barrel. Sig replaced the barrel and did a periodic maintenance on it. I swear we tried every single way to contact the owner when it came back; phone, fax and certified mail. Nope, no response. And so there it sat. For a year.

Finally the owner of the store sold it to me for $1.00 on New Year’s Eve 1999 just to get it off the books.

I win.

$20 for one of those Chinese pellet guns. It was advertised in the paper that it shot 900 fps and I told myself that if it shot I was gonna buy it. The kid threw in a box of pointed pellets too. About a week later it took one of the ducks that hang out in my pond and screw up the bank.

Now it sits next to the GAMO that used to kill the ducks. ;)

$85 in 1987 for a post-May dealer sample M3A1 Grease Gun with no finish but otherwise in perfect shape. Several thousand rounds later it has never malfunctioned.

JR

I got a .22 Mag Derringer from a buddy years ago for helping him clean up his shop. Fun little flame throwing gun.

I bought a Raven 25 acp when I worked at a gunshop. I paid $30.00 OTD which ,at the time, was cost +10%. Not anything I'd rely on but it's fired a few hundred rounds w/o a problem, just got hold it too high on the grip or it will bite. I figure I'd try it for $30.00.

When I managed the same gunshop a year later I had a guy come in with a very clean Colt Trooper that was "broken". The hammer wouldn't stay cocked. I told him It would most likely be a pretty simple repair. He said "You can just keep that piece of crap!" and walked out. A minute later an employee asked me if I wanted to sell it too him for $100.00. I said o.k :D No gun but a nice profit for 5 minutes "labor".

About 6 months ago I bought my daughter a Savage .22 single shot youth rifle from Wally World on close-out for $50.00. I asked if they had anymore but they said no. Next week I went back and they had the same model again marked for $35.00! I bought that one for my son. 2 guns to start my kids shootin' on for $85.00, not too shabby. BTW - They turned out to be consecutive serial numbers also.
