Whats your caliber footprint?

.223
.30-06
9mm
.357 mag & .38 spec
12 gauge

That is all.

The deeper I get into guns and reloading, the less difference I see between calibers. So I keep it simple.

Personally I'd rather have matching guns with tons of ammo, rather than lots of different guns and lots of different ammo.

Rifles:
.22lr
7.62X39
.308win
.30-06

Handguns:

As of August 8, 2008

I've since "adjusted" my caliber footprint, it is now like this:
Rifles:
.22lr
7.62X39
.308win
6.8spc

Handguns:
.38spl
.45acp

Shotgun:
12 gauge

And I've got a pretty good feeling it's going to stay like this for a very long time

Calibers I own, I own for a reason. Often, it's a consideration of effectiveness/versatility Vs. availability.

.22 LR - rifle I got in high-school. Great for small-game hunting and pest control

12-ga - first gun purchased in my name. Apartment defense, versatility of multiple ammo options

7.62x54R - Rifles at big 5 for $70. Cheap ammo availability, good brush rifle.

7.62x39 - Cheap ammo for plinking, semi-auto, good all-round backup rifle. Bonus: already had cleaning kit for it.

.308 - more power than x39, detachable mags, better for hunting. Still same cleaning supplies.

.45 ACP - Needed a good handgun. .45 is a proven round, that is (in theory) widely available.

.38 Special - Sig. Other needed a self-defence gun, .45 was too powerful for her. Got the gun REAL cheap.

Of all the postings, I found that Driftertank most closely resembles my "footprint", interesting......:scrutiny:

Never bothered to add them all up before:

.22
.25 ACP
6.5mm Swedish Mauser
7mm Spanish Mauser
7.62x39 Russian

7.62x54 Russian

.32 S&W
.32-20 Winchester
8mm Mauser

Wow i feel way undergunned here.

22lr single

shotguns
12 ga bolt action J.c. higgens
20 ga single

Pistols

The 22 7mm and 20 ga are a combo gun. 2 pistols one for me one for wifey. And everyone needs and 12 ga

My footprint:

.32 ACP
8mm Mauser
9mm Parabellum (x2)
.45 Colt

Because I was bored, I added the bullet diameters of all 5 of my guns and came up with an average of 0.3588". So I guess my footprint is only about the size of a .38 S&W (as opposed to .38 Special.) :D

wow, I've got some work to do, that being said, my dad and I (I've been out of the house for a few years now) have been working on a modest armory together so far we have....

Ruger 10/22 (2)
Remington 700 .22-250
M1 Carbine .30
Ruger .357 w/9mm cylinder too
Glock 19 - 9mm
12 ga - Winchester 1300 (garbage, will be trading in towards Tikka 30-06)
- Remington 1100 (great barn rescue I've put some work into)
- O/U can't remember brand
- Benelli Nova
20 ga - Remington 870 youth (will add full size stock once little bro outgrows it. I kept it for him to shoot)
- O/U cant remember brand
Model 1896 30-30 winchester saddle ring carbine

That being said, all of our shooting can really be covered by the 2 pistols, the 12 ga nova and O/U, the 20 O/U (grouse etc), the 10/22s and the .22-250. I'm buying a Tikka 06 to add some muscle to the group and am mentally shopping for an ar-15 as well as a semi-auto 9mm-.45, can't really decide

Run of the mill like .22 up to odd ball like 7.7 Arisaka, then jump to scatter guns up to 12 ga. Sort of evenly spaced along the way.
