What's your "never buy" gun?

The worst gun I owned was an RG .22 revolver. It was $29....NEW!! That was 25+ years ago. It was basically a firearm that was built to the quality level of a mid-range cap gun. Really. Well...practically really.

Next was a semi-auto Jennings in .22. I think I paid $60 for that, new.

Next in line were a couple of Ravens (semi-auto)...I bought them "once upon a midnight dreary..." And then I shot them "NEVERMORE!!" They were $40 each, new. They actually didn't jam near as much as the Jennings because they were in .25 acp, which works better in cheapo autos than .22 lr.

The last, and best (or least worst) of my Saturday Night Specials was a 9mm Stallard (now Hi-Point.) I paid a whopping $139 for that new about 20 years ago. If Fred Flintstone was going to carry a Semi-auto, it would be the Stallard, as it appeared to have been made with primative neolithic flint tools.

You know what? I really kinda miss my rotten old guns. They represent a bygone era, in a way. You just don't see many of them around anymore (thank goodness.) I coulda had my own Saturday Night Special collection.

I don't own anything too fancy, currently (Ruger, S&W, Marlin, Winchester, etc.), but I appreciate their modest (yet undeniable) quality when I think of those crummy guns of my past.
Sounds like an RG-23 .22LR snub.

Am I on the right track? I inherited one from my paternal grandmother who really didn't know jack about guns. The firing pin is currently frozen in the forward position & WILL NOT MOVE, no matter what I try to free it with. The cylinder will not close because of the stuck pin, & before all that, it would fail to fire on about every other round from what I suspect was a weak spring.

Avoid RG-23s at all costs!

AR7. Wont touch another. (The older ones or the new Henry models) Had a few of both, and none were worth a hoot as far as accuracy and especially reliability.

I really liked the concept, but the rifle itself did not live up to it in the end.

Tried various different loads of 22lr, multiple magazines, etc....... but none of them worked in reliable fashion enough to satisfy me.

My other "will never buy" gun would have to be the Saiga 308. I do not like this rifles ergonomics to begin with, not fond of the iron sights, and cant stand the location of the safety. Magazines cost more than I'm willing to pay, and I am already rather fond of another semiautomatic rifle chambered in this caliber.

Note: This aint about AK vs AR either. I have no use for an AR anyways.

Interesting thread here to say the least.:)

"Sounds like an RG-23 .22LR snub. Am I on the right track?"

I believe so. It was a snubnose. I think the trigger pull was something like 50 or maybe 150 pounds. I would call it the Yugo of firearms, but that wouldn't be fair to Yugo.

The strange thing is, I read somewhere that RG was a German import, and the Germans are usually known for quality mfg. (Though the generally low opinion of Glock on this thread wouldn't support that notion.) Maybe the RG was made in East Germany or something. I believe I paid $29...maybe it was $35. It was definitely less than my $40 Raven.

Oh yes, Fragout's comment reminded me - I had one of those AR7 guns, too, only in the pistol version, and it was pretty lousy. It had a lot of gimmick appeal - a novel concept, but jammed on almost every shot as I recall. (unless I used ONLY Remmington Hi-vel. ammo. Then it would only jam every 8-10 shots.)

Interesting post. I spent quite a while reading through most of it. Lots of ranting, venting, taunting and all sorts of different legitimate reasons.

First off, never is a very long time and I know I've changed my mind before. Ten years ago any Glock would have been on this list, but now I have a desire for a Glock 29 or 30. Before the idea of owning an ugly plastic gun had no merit; now a worry-free trail/woods/dirt and sweat proof tool seems like a good idea.

Just about every gun on this post has a niche, but everyone feels strongly about what's not aesthetically pleasing or useful to them; or they've had bad experiences with the manufacturers product or customer service, or for whatever political reasons have been listed. At this point I've never had an really ugly experience with a gun I've bought, though I've lost interest or become disenchanted with some. My sister bought a H&R .22 revolver years ago that was never did work well even after sending it back to H&R. We bought my dad an Miroku Browning Light 20 Auto 5 for Christmas one year that had to be sent to Browning for repair right out of the box. They took care of it and it's worked perfectly ever since. I guess any gun can have a problem, good customer service is important to me, so I probably wouldn't buy anything too obscure or foreign without good support or availability of parts.

Right now I'm not interested in anything too cheap (i.e., Jennings, Davis) or too expensive (Perrazzi, Blaser) or too used and worn. There are a lot of guns out there in my price range that 'll make me happy.

I've got no desire for a Desert Eagle or S&W .500 (but if I could afford a something like a Linebaugh Bisley conversion in .475 of .500 that would be sweet -it's packable practical firepower). No need for the "look at me" factor at the range as far as I'm concerned.

"Black rifles" don't interest me much. Maybe some time down the road, but for now my aesthetic values lay elsewhere.

I'll stay away from big Magnum rifles too. I'm not planning on facing Cape Buffalo anytime soon, so I won't beat myself up with something i can't shoot a lot.

I probably wouldn't buy anything too dolled up, plated, polished, anodized in different colors, super fancy engraved or anything I didn't intend on shooting either. Buying guns to not shoot is a hobby enjoyed by other people.:D

I will never buy a Glock. I hate Glock triggers plus I'm not really a big fan of most plastic guns to start with. The fact that Glocks became so popular never ceases to amaze me.

AMT Backup...I inherited 2 when a friend died, one in .45 and one in .380. I shot the .45 twice....it removed skin from my thumb knuckle both times. The only gun I have even disliked shooting. I never even fired the .380. Traded them both in (with a little cash) on a brand new Glock 30SF and never looked back.

I didn’t read the whole thread but any center fire magnum. I’d make exceptions for anything I can shoot a lesser round out of; like a .357.

If I can’t get it done without a magnum I’m not interested in doing it.

I would GIVE away a Ruger mini 14 before I would part with my POS Norinco 1911.
That commie pistol is the energizer bunny wearing a timex watch.
The Ranch Rifle was an over priced boat anchor......

Taurus, Glock (just don't like them no technical reason), S&W semi-auto, Ruger center-fire semi-auto; those are all handguns by the way.

Taurus
Kelt-tec pistols (the new shotgun looks way to good to not consider it)
S&W Sigma
Single Shot
Desert Eagles (just don't get it)

Anything with pink, purple,or gold on it! Quess thats you Taurus............but your Judge is the bomb!!!! Anything that has a shine on it greater than the one on my truck. I want to shoot it not drive it.

Desert Eagle, any lower-tier handgun like a Jennings or their ilk, a Taurus semi-auto, no-name bargain-price shotguns, Taurus Judge.
