Which 1911 45 in this scenario

My point was with any new design it's going to take some time for things like holster options to catch up, that's a given. I mean, how long has Glock been around as opposed to this design? Honestly for most people it's a non issue.
It's going to take a longer time than most. It's not a new gun from SIG/Beretta/HK/Glock/S&W/etc. It's entirely possible ATI isn't offering this design in 5 years. Holster makers (or Blue Gun makers) are probably not jumping on this design in great numbers or even soon.

As somebody that spends a lot of time in the "Accessories, Holsters, and Optics" sub-forum trying to help folks find a holster for some odd gun or odd gun/light combo, it is an issue for many.

Hey, all I'm saying is it could be a consideration, and folks should plan ahead.

I understand what you're saying but basing your "it's an issue for many" on primarily gun forum activity is pretty limited. The vast majority of gun owners don't post on gun forums, just look at the numbers. That's why I say it's a non issue. Also I'm not a Nostradamus so I have no idea if this model is going to take off or die a short death and would never presume to make that claim one way or another. That said we can agree to disagree.

Of course if I personally wanted a custom holster for it I'd just make my own leather holster or get an easy to use Kydex kit but that's just me. ;)

I'm in a similar situation. Trying to decide what I want to get with my tax return. If I don't see anything that sparks my interest at the LGS today, I'm ordering a .50 GI conversion kit for my Glock.

I have a S&W 1911 that I really like. The purists hate them for their external extractor, but it works well.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to anyone. It's getting very hard these days for the average shooter to overlook the 1911s in the mid price ranges for mass production guns. Your budget will get you a nice 1911 these days, even if it doesn't carry a semi custom/full custom makers mark.
ETA my Colt Commander is NOT the best 1911 in my small accumulation of them (6),
In terms of fit, finish, or function, even though it was the most expensive.

When I was looking for a 1911 a couple months ago, if my budget would have been $1250.00 I would have picked up a S&W, too. But my budget was $800, so I got a Springfield. I never saw any Dan Wesson for less than $1500 when I was looking.

This is always complicated when presented with "I have $nnnn and want [firearm], what should I get?" as a question.

With OP's budget, this would use all of it up:

Finding a "Strike Era" Series 70 in the "off book" electroless nickle and blued parts (likely a make-work for the Colt Custom Shop) is not exactly easy.
Which would drive the price of what's just a mundane used Colt up pretty high. No bells, no whistles, just is what it is.

Or, a person could get one of these:
1911A1 Port.jpg
Port Side.jpg
Both of which were right around US$400 out the door.
The TISAS looks pretty in cocobolo stocks:

RIA, ARMSCOR, and TISAS offer versions with a pile of the "cool kids" bells and whistles, typically in three sizes and three calibers--all of those in the US$600-700 range.
Which would leave a nice sum for buying ammo, or range time, or both.
Or, not scrimping on accessories.
TISAS ship with two mags, but additional (good) ones are going to be around US$30-40 per each. So four extra mags is going to scare US$200 with sales taxes, shipping, etc., and barely leave enough to buy a box of ammo.

I have 4 1911s with 5” barrel. All are the no frills version. My most expensive is this one. I bought it off the widow who’s husband brought it back from military service. Made in 1918. $1000. IMG-0442-zpskot1rvdm.jpg This Remington R1 S is my second most expensive $600 IIRC. The best trigger I’ve ever pulled. My favorite. 96324-1911-R1-SS-96324-Profile-R-96324.png My others are a RIA 10 mm and a Tisas 45 ACP

I already have 6 1911 45 ACPs and only my Les Baer was more than $1250. One is a Para P14 Signature which is double stack and out of production and Para's are all over the map for QC and reliability so while I like mine I wouldn't reccomend it. The other 4 are all Colts a 1991 officers, a 70 series Gold Cup a 100th anniversary and a Combat Elite I like variety if I didn't have any 45 1911s I'd prolly start with the Combat Elite(upper right) 20220915_115655_HDR.jpg

I envy everyone buying firearms, not in the need category at present and I don’t want for much either. My return is getting tucked away for a rainy day and the OT on this week’s check is buying a different sort of toy. Not as compact as a .45ACP so I’ve only got a half dozen and this one doesn’t quite meet the budget constraints thanks to the Kevlar layup.

I'd look for a quality used 1911. Most don't get fired much. Ones I've bought used under $1000 so far
Sig Sauer C3 1911 .... $879
Dan Wesson Guardian .... $949
Springfield Defender series (was under $500)
Then I have 3 RIA I bought, in 9mm, 38 Super and 40 S&W.

Only one I have that cost more was a Wilson Combat CQB Compact I bought used as well

Some dominating Pony models right there. The CE is a classic.

Very nice. Hope the OP is taking notes. o_O

Nooop. No budget knock-offs. We like the Pony behind Door #1.

I think Col. Cooper said all a 1911 needs is a decent set of sights so I think I would opt for that as an upgrade.

Used ones pop up on occasion. In the last year or so I picked up a Heritage for $900 and a PM7 for $1000.

Personally I'd get a Springfield Armory in the $800-$900 range but it's hard to argue with the Tisas, Girsan, RIA choices that are out there now.

I don't know what that is......
My Springfield mil-spec was $599 so if the OP can find one that cheap he can get a Nighthawk threaded barrel for 300 and still have money for a holster and some extra mags. Maybe even a die set to reload.

Yeah unfortunately I think my Springfield mil-spec has proprietary sights and would have to be milled for aftermarket sights I think?

Yeah, how about not buying a Colt Series 80. They weren't even that great when new. If you just want a decent 1911, anything Colt Series 70, Springfield Ruger, Armscorp, Sig. Used Dan Wesson and Springfield custom shop is a step up from normal.

.You nailed it with Colt S70.

Upscale cloneys maybe, but still lacking the Pony. Therefore, aspirational at best.

Ive had very good experience with Kimber (10mm Eclipse II). Springfield "loaded" model is a very good piece as well. Better finish on the slide w the Kimber IMO.

My preferences for buying new with the price cap:

Colt
Springfield

My preferences for buying used with the price cap:

DW

Lastly, the imports from RIA and Tisas seem to be well liked by those that own and use them. So there’s that to consider also.
