A Taurus PT1911 Commander and the rest on ammo.
It's going to take a longer time than most. It's not a new gun from SIG/Beretta/HK/Glock/S&W/etc. It's entirely possible ATI isn't offering this design in 5 years. Holster makers (or Blue Gun makers) are probably not jumping on this design in great numbers or even soon.My point was with any new design it's going to take some time for things like holster options to catch up, that's a given. I mean, how long has Glock been around as opposed to this design? Honestly for most people it's a non issue.
I understand what you're saying but basing your "it's an issue for many" on primarily gun forum activity is pretty limited. The vast majority of gun owners don't post on gun forums, just look at the numbers. That's why I say it's a non issue. Also I'm not a Nostradamus so I have no idea if this model is going to take off or die a short death and would never presume to make that claim one way or another. That said we can agree to disagree. It's going to take a longer time than most. It's not a new gun from SIG/Beretta/HK/Glock/S&W/etc. It's entirely possible ATI isn't offering this design in 5 years. As somebody that spends a lot of time in the "Accessories, Holsters, and Optics" sub-forum trying to help folks find a holster for some odd gun or odd gun/light combo, it is an issue for many.
Hey, all I'm saying is it could be a consideration, and folks should plan ahead.
I have a S&W 1911 that I really like. The purists hate them for their external extractor, but it works well.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to anyone. It's getting very hard these days for the average shooter to overlook the 1911s in the mid price ranges for mass production guns. Your budget will get you a nice 1911 these days, even if it doesn't carry a semi custom/full custom makers mark.
ETA my Colt Commander is NOT the best 1911 in my small accumulation of them (6),
In terms of fit, finish, or function, even though it was the most expensive.
A Ruger 1911 shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same post as the Colt.
Some dominating Pony models right there. The CE is a classic.I already have 6 1911 45 ACPs and only my Les Baer was more than $1250. One is a Para P14 Signature which is double stack and out of production and Para's are all over the map for QC and reliability so while I like mine I wouldn't reccomend it. The other 4 are all Colts a 1991 officers, a 70 series Gold Cup a 100th anniversary and a Combat Elite I like variety if I didn't have any 45 1911s I'd prolly start with the Combat Elite(upper right)View attachment 1148584
Very nice. Hope the OP is taking notes. This is always complicated when presented with "I have $nnnn and want [firearm], what should I get?" as a question.
With OP's budget, this would use all of it up:

Finding a "Strike Era" Series 70 in the "off book" electroless nickle and blued parts (likely a make-work for the Colt Custom Shop) is not exactly easy. Which would drive the price of what's just a mundane used Colt up pretty high. No bells, no whistles, just is what it is.
Nooop. No budget knock-offs. We like the Pony behind Door #1.Or, a person could get one of these:

Both of which were right around US$400 out the door.
The TISAS looks pretty in cocobolo stocks:

Dunno, the steel in the RIA/Armscor and TISAS is very serious stuff. There's a possibility that these "knock offs" will be spoken of in the way the Norincos are, just will be two or three decades from now.No budget knock-offs
My Springfield mil-spec was $599 so if the OP can find one that cheap he can get a Nighthawk threaded barrel for 300 and still have money for a holster and some extra mags. Maybe even a die set to reload.Used ones pop up on occasion. In the last year or so I picked up a Heritage for $900 and a PM7 for $1000.
Personally I'd get a Springfield Armory in the $800-$900 range but it's hard to argue with the Tisas, Girsan, RIA choices that are out there now.
I don't know what that is......
Yeah unfortunately I think my Springfield mil-spec has proprietary sights and would have to be milled for aftermarket sights I think?I think Col. Cooper said all a 1911 needs is a decent set of sights so I think I would opt for that as an upgrade.
