Great story. I just got back from the range with my Witness Elite Match .45. Lordy, for the money, what a pistol. I am a diehard 1911 guy, and really love my CZ's too.
I bought the Witness because of all the positives I have read about the "Match" series. This Witness is quickly moving to top of my "best" list. I just had to get over the name (Tanfoglio) and the "what is that" questions from others.
Thanks fellas. I spent some time at my local gun store today handling things. I'm more interested in something in a compact size, as it will be my summer carry rig. (I have a 4" S&W 686 for the winter and a 7" S&W 629 for the mountains.) I think an Elite Match would be too bulky, but it sure would be sweet. I saw a Witness in a standard compact, it was nice- and inexpensive. I also really liked the Baby Eagle compact, but not so much the slide safety. What I didn't see which I'd like to is a CZ 75 P-01. I'm leaning towards 9mm because it's fun and cheap to shoot. We'll see what I end up with
I do believe that the smoothest DAO I have ever pulled is Para Ordinance. It is the very definition of smooth and the pricing won't require a key to Fort Knox!
Unless you tighten up the criteria, I would have to say it would be a tossup between any of the pistols made for international rapid pistol-Hammerli, Pardini, Benelli, Walther, etc. Not to mention the triggers are fully adjustable with screw for adjustments most shooters have never heard of.
Everything is relevant. Me...I detest SA/DA. As a revolver person...I seek DAO pistols. I like to keep my training uniform on all weapons to begin with...and once accustomed to a fine DAO revovler...it is very difficult, at least for me, to retrain to SA or DA/SA. The only all steel platforms worth mentioning are the Para and Kahr triggers which I understand are very nice. I guess one could have a Sig gunsmithed to DAO if one wanted to go through all the trouble.
Sig and the 210 series. These triggers for production guns put virtually every 1911 or other triggers I have worked to shame. Even my Baer's feel rough in comparison.
the STI Spartan has a very good trigger. Better than the kimbers in my opinion. I have to say though that this is the area that my cz75 is lacking bit too much slack in SA and the break could be cleaner.
