bds,

Are you implying there are a lot of dies being made outside the U.S.?

If so, which brands/types? I know RCBS, Forster, and Redding are all made in the USA, so what is your point in saying:

"Most of Lee Precision products are made in the USA by tax paying workers and I believe Lee product sales exceed many other brands sales combined. I think this is one of many reasons why Lee Precision is able to sell their products at lower prices."

No moxie, I just made a general broad statement that most Lee Precision products are made in the USA not specific to dies. My comment did not speak to the quality of dies.

It is true that more and more reloading/shooting companies have moved manufacturing oversees to save cost.

Latest example is RCBS (ATK/now Vista Outdoor) moving manufacturing of beam scales outside of USA.

For me, this is important as I try to support companies based in the USA using tax paying workers whenever I can for shooting/reloading related product purchases (it's a small effort, but an important one that I value) - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=618116

BTW, here's a list of other tool companies still making them in the USA - http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/tools.html

I try to support Made in USA too. That's why in the context of this discussion, DIES, it's important to note that all dies (that I can find and you haven't named any others), are made in the USA, not just Lee. The implication in your "general broad statement" is simple inaccurate.

I have been on road assignment and have not had good sleep at all during the night coupled with weak motel coffee not kicking in ... our agency just got a 500% increase in workload (because we were doing so well ...:barf: and new assignment starts in 3 weeks! :cuss:).

Reading my post again, one could certainly get the wrong impression which was not my intent.

I really need a job change ...

Not sure about RCBS moving their scales to China either. The old scales were made by Ohaus out of NJ (if you flip them over it is in the casting). The new ones still have the same thing cast into the bottom with the exception of a "made in China" sticker as well.

Not sure if you blame RCBS or Ohaus on that one. RCBS did bring out new scales after the China scales recovered poor feed back (don't know where the new ones are being made).

OT but kinda in the ball park. OHaus was/is a old USA company. They put their name on a lot of scales. They are the ones that moved production of some of them to China. RCBS etc just rebrand them.

LEE Precision is a US Family owned company in WI for many, many years, They are no a giant corporation like Dillon that has huge Military/Govt contracts.

Who really knows what they (Dillon) make in house or farm out??. Half the stuff in their monthly catalog is not their products,

Just like springs for guns. Wilson, Ed Brown, SW, Jerry Micluk do not make them, Wolff makes them. How many magazines are made by Mec Gar? (most of the big names)

Well, I started with Lee dies for my 9mm , no problems bought a Dillon used, came wth 9mm and 223 set of dies, I went on hand hve used the Dillon for the 9mm and they work about the same. With a touch of exterior rust:). I've a couple of sets of hornady (only brand I could get) and I really don't care for them that Much. If hade to buy, Lee is the way to go
