Why do some guys think that the Desert Eagle is the ultimate handgun?

The Israeli influence. Until recently, known to take care of business. The Sig & HK have that strong Germanic flavor taking advantage of the world's stereotypical views.
If the DE had a Philippino origin, it would be called a POS...:)

The earlier Desert Eagles that I have seen were a total reverse of the newer stuff. They looked more rugged and uninteresting but they shot very well. My Friend has one of them, a .357 Magnum MARK I. I'd love to get my hands on one. Small, almost average size, reliable and well balanced. Not by any means a macho gun though.

Your friend may have something other than a DE Mark I. The Mark I differs from the Mark VII in relatively minor ways, size not one of them. The safety is a different shape and the amount of serrations on the slide release differs, and that's about it.

i had a de .357 fired a couple hundred rounds through it.seemed too big and heavey for the caliber.liked the 686 alot more.picked up a .50 a few years later, fun to shoot, but i kept engaging the slide release when firing it left handed.both pistols had high trade in value at the gun store though.

When those Velociraptor's come a calling.....

Hey, we've got those things here in Georgia. They come down out of the North Georgia Mountains where they breed them in meth labs.

Tell you the truth, when the water runs out in three months I may well be very glad that I have my DE.

Some lures are designed to catch the fish others are designed took catch the fisherman.:D
Thats why they even gold plate some handguns.:neener:

The MARK I has a more trim upper in .357 Magnum then the .44 Magnum MARK VII (compared the two) and has a slightly different internal make up, mostly surrounding the gas operation and recoil. I think the weight of the slide and interior differences made around the recoil and gas system make the difference.
Even though the .357 Magnum MARK I actually has a slightly larger frame then the MARK VII and XIX, the gun is very obviously smaller and lighter then the .44 Magnum.
My only issue with a .357 Mag auto is I have a hard time justifying one over a good 10mm. I guess ammo availability is a reasonable excuse.

How does the Mark I and Mark VII, both in .357, compare to each other? I think that you might find the slide size to be almost the same for the Mark I and Mark VII for the same calibers. The slide size increase in general came with the Mark XIX. I suspect that the Mark I and Mark VII in .357 are nearly identical in size. I've never held a Mark XIX but the slide is noted to be larger at least to accommodate the larger dovetails.

I agree. It's because CounterStrike. You will notice its usually young punks that think they are awesome.

What is Counterstrike?

Only like the most elite PC game evarrrrr :)

Seriously, its awesome. Its an online game where you have Terrorist, and Counter Terrorist.

You can be either. If you are terrorist, your mission is usually to place a bomb or protect hostages.

If your on the Counter-Strike Team you have to find the bomb and difuse it or you have to rescue the hostages.

I used to be in a CLAN and we'd have tournaments etc. It's actually very FUN and cool.
