This is a LEO too. What is the advantage to holding the gun laid over at such a hard angle?

Point shooting maybe? I remember years ago when it was a thing, then it became gangster...then a joke. I shoot with some local deputies and PD officers. I'll ask. Maybe it'll help a couple of 'em.

This is an exceptionally poorly trained LEO too.

As his arms are extended, ostensibly ready to shoot, there is no good reason for the cant of the pistol. Note his strong-hand thumb is also on the slide. Errant unaimed shots probable, malfunction certain.
Also not good, I recall he took several steps backward before shooting when the guy charged him with the knife. See better view of it at 12:15

It's easier for one-handed shooting, if you are facing the target. If you turn sideways to the target you can keep your hand vertical. I see the photo in the OP is of someone doing this shooting two-handed, I've never seen anyone do that IRL.

My wife is right handed and left eye dominate.

She tilts pistols to the side, but not as much as in the picture above. And she is a great shot.

That’s an easy one to answer - stupid movies and even dumber TV shows…

A secondary proof, for those that need it… Just remember when there were TV and movie shows where the heroes and villains were doing really crazy things with cars… I’ll bet some research would show a corresponding spike in road casualties by idiots trying to duplicate what they’d seen on the screen (big or small…).

It may be an adaptation of Center Axis Relock, but I don't see run-of-the-mill patrol having that type of skill/training. I paid to attend the training, my department was pretty receptive to advanced training.

Heck if I know why they shoot sideways other than it looks gansta style.

I have shot this way, just to see what happens, with my 1911's and S&W revolvers. The bullet goes in the middle, there is no sight acquisition or alignment advantage. Recoil is different.
