Just increase temps on the pot until your alloy melts. As long as you aren’t getting hundreds of degrees above this point you will be fine. It really is that easy.

Hmm, at Amazon CANADA, that PID costs almost as much as the Lyman digital Lead thermometer, and one the reviewers tested the PID and said it overshoots a LOT. Looks like the Lyman solution might be the most practical solution, given it is designed for specifically this application and costs almost nothing more than the PID.

I hear you, but for the alloying (versus casting), I will be using a s.s. pot sitting upon a 1500 watt hot plate! Wuth 1500 watts available, it would be easy to get to a higher than I want temperature! (For comparison, my Lyman Mag 25 furnace for CASTING only uses 700 watts maximum). I magine 1500 watts could elevate the alloy temperature VERY quickly.
