I have a Winchester Model 43 in pieces (literally in pieces, the former owner wrapped it around a tree - long story) and I've been trying to identify the size and pitch of the Stock Stud Screw and the Rear Guard Screw, both of which screw into the bottom of the receiver. They look like #10 screws, but don't seem to have the standard thread pitch for #10 screws. My thread gauge shows it to be about 35 threads per inch, but I have never heard of such a thread pitch on #10 screws. Did Winchester go our of their way to make special screws for this rifle? I'm wondering if someone can help me on this? Is there any chance these are metric screws? I'm totally baffled on this one.

No idea what size they are, but when I have had similar issues in the past I've gone to the local Ace Hardware store and found what I needed. Ace seems to have the largest selection of screw sizes in stock that I have seen anywhere. Take the item in and try various sizes until you find the one that fits.
