Worse gun torture test you have ever done?

rifles, no, not really. and i am not much on torture testing them at all. the worst i have ever really done is to shoot my semi auto pistol after mud and sand immersion. i figured i needed to know if it would function like that if it ever needed to. thankfully, it worked fine. i can not say i would recommend it. but when carrying one to save your hide, you need to know if it will.

Currently running a franken AR with out cleaning. Only add a couple of drops of Mobile 1 on the gas rings every 3-400 rounds. BCG was greased prior to starting this. And am only shooting reloaded Wolf cases. At 3200 rounds without failure so far.

I've got a savage over-under 22/20G that road around behind the seat of my Nissan truck for about 5 years. Not recommended, but the gun functioned fine. The bluing however . . . sigh.

I saw my dad nearly run over his 760 Gamemaster carbine once. (Don't drive off from your lunch spot with your rifle on the fender of your FJ45.)

That old gun has some honest 'wear'. Still a great shooter.

EDITED:

Loan any firearm to my brother for a hunting trip. He's hard on gear and will drop it, fall on it whack it against a dozen tress, let it fall off a tailgate, into a creek etc.

Noticed I hadn't cleaned it since my last trip to the range, the previous week.

;-)

"Worst torture test..." on a firearm was living in Alaska for three years. Don't get me wrong I loved being there, but the weather and location were just hard on my firearms. I cleaned and lubed them every day and carried them all the time; in boats on the sea, and camping all the coast. Lots of wear and tear on them.

I try to take care of my guns. That is why I use Eezox for lubrication and protection, even tho I live in the desert where rust is not much of an issue.I would like to see how the Alaska Torture test pans out.The only thing that would be tougher would be in an ocean enviroment,in Alaska!

FA AK with a couple drums and several 30 round mags dumped. Set the handguards on fire. Poured water on it, and kept firing.

I left a chiappa .22lr pistol in the back of a truck one night out camping. Rained that night, and then froze. Froze the pistol to the bed of the truck. Chipped it out and loaded it up and fired without a problem.

This was real torture. I strapped my 110 pound wife on to a Colt 44 mag with mag bullets in it and had her shoot it.

It made a believer out of her and we are still married. but my personal torture continues.

"Torture testing" one unit of any mass produced item is no indication at all of how reliable a weapon is or what they can be counted on to stand up to. In a sand test for example you may just be lucky and the sand happens to avoid the sweet spots that will stop function.

I have a Ruger MK II that I have run until it failed to fire on several occasions before I cleaned it. I fired between 3300 and 6100 rounds of Federal LR bulk ammo each time for 5 cleanings IIRC over a three year time frame. A good cleaning and back to a fine shootin' firearm every time. My kind O gun for sure.:D

The only 'torture test' I have subjected a firearm to was a test I did on my XD45C a couple years ago. I own a fabrication shop so my carry gear is subjected daily to lots of welding smoke, abrasive grinding dust, and fine metal particles. Initially I kept the weapon lightly oiled and cleaned and oiled it weekly. The oil was always black with grit and other crap when I wiped the rails and other parts after a week. The test: I cleaned it with Gun Scrubber to eliminate 100% of it's lube and fired 100 rounds of Federal 230 grain HST +P as this is my carry ammo. It functioned flawlessly. I now carry the weapon completely dry, except for a *very* light coat of oil inside the barrel to insure that it does not rust. Carrying it dry there is almost no abrasive dust on the weapon. Wiping it down with a white cloth there is no visible color on the cloth after even two weeks. I now field strip it weekly and blow it off/out thoroughly with an air nozzle and re-assemble. I always lube it prior to going shooting and clean it when I get home.

I did do a torture test on myself once and may have posted about it here previously. The gist of said test was I was exhausted after being awake working on a race car for two days straight and was heavily caffeinated to stay awake with the ensuing 'shakes'. In this state I put 400 rounds of .45ACP ball ammo through my XD in less than an hour and kept every round on the paper. To be safe I did this in the separate "training" section of a friend's range and was the only person on said range just in case I had a mental lapse and did something really stupid. I was tired enough that anything was possible, but I didn't make any mistakes. I called this my "Exhaustion Drill" and it taught me a whole bunch about myself and my shooting. I don't think I've ever slept as well as I did after that one! :)

About the only thing I've done is leave my carry pistol and amgs out in the cold truck then shot it to make sure it would function. Other than that, I treat my guns better than my wife...lol.
