My sons neighbor has one of above that was brought back after the war. It's all original and has the Nazi insignia. he's asking $1200 /$1500 for it. Good investment or not? Thanks!

<<Note, the title of the thread has been edited but a number of responses refer to the original title which had a typo. Hope that clears up any confusion. THR Staff>>

A WWII Nazi Proofed Ruger would be an amazing investment since the company was founded after the war.

Got a feeling you might mean "Luger" and if so it could be a catch but far too many unknowns to even guess about value.

I laughed a bit wondering what a German engineer or machinist back then would have thought about the Ruger P85…

Well, Bill Ruger did supposedly draw inspiration for his MK II from the Luger (and Japanese Nambu) designs, so... ;)

Way too many variables to offer advice without some pictures. You can spend years learning about Lugers and never know everything. Some immedaite things to look for, though, are matching serial numbers on the visible parts (either the full serial or the last 2 digits). What's the marking on the hood? That will tell you the manufacturer and year. And with any gun, condition is key.

For an all matching, original gun that's a great price. For a worn, Franken-gun with some GI pick up parts, not so much.

They might have actually liked the Ruger Standard, the P85 were investment cast stainless, aluminum and fiberglass reenforced plastic frame. “Clunky” is a good descriptive word for them.

I'm pretty sure the OP did mean to type "Luger" rather than "Ruger", but since the OP's screen name is triplebike, and we're having a little fun until he comes back and clarifies, maybe he could give me a value of a Laverda XS750.

Very sorry for the mistake. It is a Luger. It's the real deal. It's the tip of the iceburg as to what he has. Serial #.s all match. He let my son see his collection but I'll have to earn his trust before I get to the compete collection. He opened his safe for my son because they got to know each other over the last couple of years. My son did see a older Marlin bolt action (single shot?) Serial # 0006.

The Laverda xs750 is a twin not a triple, but in good condition worth big bucks. I've owned Triples since 1971 with the 1st one purchased was a " Kawasaki H1 500cc Mach III 2 stroke, which is a rocket ship on two wheels. To this day I will never forget the 1st time It hit 6000 rpm, felt like I was being shot out of a cannon. Fun times.

Yes, it was, but in the spirit of this thread of a "WW II NAZI 9mm Ruger", it was Yamaha that had an XS750 Triple.
Got ya. My Yamaha was the XS750 Special. Not as CRAZY as the Kawasaki, but no slouch when properly tuned and handled much better.

Not being judgmental or woke, but I personally wouldn’t want anything with Nazi markings.

It never interested me even when it was all the rage at the gun shows during the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s.
well… if you turn the gun/marking 25 degrees, it become a Buddhist marking

No doubt it's the real deal, but values are all over the places and heavily dependent on what it actually is and actual condition. However $1,200 is basically the low end for anything worth buying so assuming it doesn't look like it a complete turd you are probably coming out of the good end of he deal.

And it is a prominent symbol in southwestern pueblo and Navajo tribal works as well

To me those guns are pieces of world history. Yes, crazy folks coopted these runes and designs for their own awful purposes. But I choose to look beyond the hate when I see the history things like old guns represent.

(May we never relive such evil again.)

Stay safe.

Piece of history so we don’t forget or rewrite History!

My short career at the National Museum of American History, seen all kinda horrific “objects” But the physical objects don’t lie.

The only Nazi symbol on a Luger or most other WWII German weapons is the tiny little waffenamt acceptance stamp here and there. Not like the huge American Eagle on a 1900 test trials Luger or the big Swiss Cross on one of theirs.

Priced at $1200/$1500, what does that mean?
Simpson Ltd is rather high on pricing, but still that is about half retail for an all matching Luger.
