You’re limited to 8 rounds, what’s your choice?

For a similar size and weight gun? Shootability. Less recoil. Quicker double taps.

My .32 mag revolver is easier to shoot and less painful than my same weight .38 special revolver launching +P loads. Both being low capacity guns.

Look at the muzzle rise on the single stack G36.

Look I will be the first to admit 9mm is going to be “easier” to shoot with faster follow ups then .40/.357SIG/.45 etc. but that picture is a weeee bit exaggerated. With a modicum of recoil control experience the Glock 30/36 certainly are nowhere near the “wrist breakers” that photo implies.

While recoil and follow up times are absolutely a thing the difference in handling between all the NORMAL martial calibers in NORMAL guns isn’t orders of magnitude different. Now a scandium .44 magnum vs a steel 627 shooting .38 then yes there is a fairly huge difference. A Glock 19 vs a 30…..ehh notsomuch.

This is not a dig on the 9mm nor is it a “.45 kills yer soul!!!!!” Kind of thing. Just pointing out that the difference in handling one way or the other with a modicum of training isn’t. YUUUUUGGEEEE.

To answer the original question 8 TOTAL rounds then I am probably going .357 PC627’s. 5 inch for HD, 2.5 inch for carry.

8 round mags changes the equation a bit for me.

Course 8 total rounds of 12 gauge 00 or slugs is probably leaning into the more then enough category. :)

We've been there, done that already. Sort of.

The original 1994 AWB called for 7 round magazines. There was a last minute push by Bill Ruger among others to get that changed to 10 rounds. Bill Ruger is often unfairly derided for pushing for the 10 round mag limit. Which is technically true, but once put into perspective takes on a different meaning.

Manufacturers simply started making smaller 9mm pistols designed around 10 round mags. If the limit were 7 rounds, they would just design new 9mm pistols around 7 round mags.

S&W Shield, or older 3900 series. Other good single stack 9mm, 10mm, 40sw pistols. I would expect 1911 type pistols to rule the day in such a scenario. I have a nice little .40 Firestar that is actually a pretty good, reliable pistol.

It’s in my pocket right now, and I’m perfectly fine with it, even without the arbitrary imaginary limitations. EC9s, gray in color. I would gladly swap slides for an adjustable sight pistol or an optic mount location.

I like to think I'd stick with a full-size handgun I can at least shoot proficiently with, rather than conceding to a miniature gun that would provide shorter sight radius, worse recoil/slower follow-up shots, less control and generally more difficulty in shooting fast shots accurately. I mean, if you've gotta go down in rounds, make the ones you have available for immediate response count. Two favorite 8-shooters below and an option for deeper concealment if necessary.

It would still need to be something that is easy to carry concealed. For me that would be a snub or semiauto under 25oz. And for me, that size gun also limits the power of a cartridge I am comfortable with to a 9mm, 380, or 38 special.

When I shoot my G36 with only my weak hand, it sure feels like that photo.

including a s&w shield ez pistol, which is meh, i’m there already with a decent selection of 38sp, 5- & 6-shot, revolvers. and i gotta say it: while interesting food for thought these “what if” questions approach the red line that, once crossed, unleashes heck.

If these mag limitations get any lower, it's gonna be a Liberator pistol in 45 ACP backed up by my Signature Series S&W Tactical Steak Knives.

When I’m out in public it would be the same as now, ruger LC9s, Kahr P40, or Kahr CW45. All 3 are 7+1 already. When not in public I choose non compliance.
