...for society chaos, unexpected invasion, etc. etc........I have chosen...after thinking of several possibilities...the M1...funny because a few years back, I may have thought it too old-fashioned..until I bought & shot one..I was wrong...it has points that others lack...I enjoy shooting it(regarding it as a faithful companion piece)...that means I want to practice with it...it is a stable longarm, it fires a very substantial cartridge, the gun has a history of reliability, even when dirty or in extreme weather(we don't have a lot of extreme weather in Arizona & I regard letting a gun get dirty a sin)...it has superb iron sights & trigger...the reloading system is quick, easy and reliable(no magazine springs to get out of whack at a bad time...topping off is a bunch of crap, who the heck tops off a clip or magazine when in a fight when a full clip or mag is at hand)...even though a 1930's design..still a terrific rifle and my #1 choice!(a riot gun and a short 'longarm' would be nice to augment such a rifle..but I am giving my primary longarm choice on this thread)...

Likely either my AR or one of my AK's. Although if ammo was readily available like an AR or AK i would be very tempted to grab one of my K-31's. And i had one i would grab an M1.

M1 Garand with over 1000 rounds(about 400 or so are ap with some tracer mixed in also) already clipped up. I have about 100 or so empty clips left and a bunch of bullets. Need more brass.

Here is mine.

Converted Saiga AK-47, 7.62x39, 6x42 POSP scope. Want to get a Mojo open sight for it. Personaly I would use 20 round mags for "general carry" compared to 30 rounders. Save the 30 rounders for later. Plus it is much easier to shoot prone with a 20 rounder.

If I had to reach into one of the gun safes, and take out just one rifle in time of need, it would probably be the M1A Loaded. I have plenty of ammo for it, spare parts, magazines, and a decent LBV to take along with the rifle.
I have found it to be as reliable as any gun I have ever owned. It is MOA acccurate with iron sights, and I am very confident with it.

AR-10 or FN FAL converted to full auto.
Why bother?? Most troops use their M-16 on semi 98% of the time anyway. All you are doing by converting to auto is damaging a good gun and throwing away ammo. You would be better off doing trigger work on it so you have a nice trigger pull. People have asked me if my Saiga and 10/22 where full auto because when I do rapid doubble taps with them I can make it look like I am doing full-auto.

djpullen, may I address the issue of 1000 rounds of ammo with you. Thats nice to have and all but I really hope you were not planing on carrying that all that ammo with you.

I just made a recent discovery myself and thought I should share with everybody. Ammo is heavy. I just took recivent of a order of 900 rounds of 8mm ammo on stripper clips. That is one HEAVY load. I personaly would not want to ruck 900 rounds of 8mm ammo around at all. Let alone add a rifle, food, wet weather gear, poncho, poncho liner, knife, zippo and fule, matches, knife and wetstone, ohh and water, and maps, and compass, and 550 cord and 100mph tape, bugne coards, zip ties, rifle gear, bino, etc....

Might want to rethink that combat load.

My rifle is a wood stocked CETME. With 7 20 round mags on a old fasiond LBE. Plus the apove mentioned gear to grab when the Soviets come ;)
