Your chosen 'MinuteMan' rifle....

Yeah, 8XX-1XXX rounds of any intermediate or full-power rifle cartridge would be a pain to lug around  I'm sure that he's talking more about a TEOTWAWKI ammo supply.

In a hypothetical minuteman scenario, I think mobility would be the name of the game (i.e. guerilla warfare). If plan A calls for carrying 80lbs of ammo, you really need a plan B. The Garands, M1As, et al are all nice rifles. They're also pretty long and heavy. I'd go w/ 7.62x39 or .223, but that's me.

For real guerilla warfare, I'd take the CZ-452 and a brick of CCI's. It's extremely quiet and can be made near silent in a pinch, pinpoint accurate, light weight and easy to feed.

Beyond that, you can whip up some useful items with glass bottles, storm matches, gasoline and tar.

Minuteman

If the "time " ever comes, I'll grab my Garrand, my Combat Commander and my 18" double barrel Stevens and do the best I can! Hopefully, we'll all do as well as the original Minutemen with whatever we are using.

The AK and SKS will be used my my wife; a little less recoil and weight than the above!

I would have to grab my glock, just because i have 4 mags and about 1800 rounds. as for a long arm, i would probably grab my sks, just because its reliable and ammo wouldnt be hard to find. Even if i already had a long arm, i would still take my Marlin 1894SS in 44 mag, accurate, great knockdown, reliable, and light enough that i could carry it all day.

Brit No. 4 Mk I or Mk I* and my Colt 1991A1 .45 ACP. In such a circumstance things will really have gone into the toilet.

...for society chaos, unexpected invasion, etc. etc...

and drawing from a Wikipedia description of the colonial era Minutemen:
special units within the militia system whose members underwent additional training and to hold themselves ready to turn out quickly ("at a minute's notice") for emergencies

I'd pick two rifles to train with, one chambered for a full power rifle cartridge (.308, .30-06, 7.62x54R, etc) and one chambered for an intermediate cartridge (7.62x39, 5.56x45, etc). I spend alot of time with Mosins and I have a ton of ammo for mine. I'd pick the most accurate M38 I could find. I honestly don't know what I'd use for the intermediate weapon, but I would prefer a carbine length.

I just bought/received my first 2 M1 Garands. Haven't shot them yet. Don't know why I waited so long to buy one, but heard CMP was running low/out, so I got one the last Greek Service Grades (with a tiger stripe stock) and a WWII era USGI Field Grade and I just love the feel of them so far. They are definitely moving up the ladder as a "go to" rifle. I'll know better after I shoot them and clean them.

Photo of both, right out of the box.

I'd probably grab my Cav-Tac. It's my latest AR varient. A Cav Arms lower with a fluted DPMS Tactcial 16 upper with the handguards replaced with triangulars and the A2 flash hider replaced with a 3 prong. Ya, it will kick up more dust, but it looks neat. ;)

The gun is very light and the ammo is too. I can carry the gun and 10 loaded magazines for the weight of some of my other rifles by themselves.

Mini-14 with 8 20 round mags and the Ruger P93 for the wife. Riot gun, a bunch of shells and the P16 with plenty of .40 for me. Long guns would be at the ready. In the event of an emergency, my area would be total chaos. We wouldn't be able to get anywhere so we would dig in and stay put.

i'd probably grab my sks. accurate enough to hit minute of black-helicopter or white-van out to a couple hundred yards, and i can carry 180 rounds pretty comfortably with the chinese bandoleer.

M1A if they are within 600 yards, otherwise M1.
I have a Marlin .30-30 for stuff in real close (you know them zombies can be sneaky when they want to). Of course an assortment of Colt 1911s for general house cleaning.

HUMMMMMMMMMMM !!!!!!!!!!

AK - 47 W/ plenty of 30 round mags, and thousands of rounds of ammo. My side arm choice = GLOCK 21 in .45 acp. w/ 5 - 13 rd mags, an Ontario-USA straight bladed fighting knife, in reserve, a S&W 686-1 in .357 , a Kershaw Black out 1550 razor sharpe, and a garrote for that bit of quiet dirty work when neccessary. !!!!!!!!

Wal Mart carries everything seen in the pics, with the exception of the rifle. Even my dadgum glasses came from the Walmart vision center. Only thing that didn't, were the 5.11 boots you can't see. Wait until hunting season is almost over, and all of that stuff goes out cheap, t-shirts for 44, stuff like that.
