Your Every Day Concealed Carry System

hso,

I have been a serious student of firearms for more than 40 years and have never heard of an aluminum framed Hi-Power. And what the heck is a Detective upper? That does stir a dim memory. Is it a bit shorter? For the German police?

I am completley entranced and would love to see pics and have you discuss such an class act in much more detail. Please!!!

Oh, sorry, I didn't respond to the OPs questions.

I carry, always. Either a second generation Glock 19 with an extended slide stop, night sights and a G17 smooth trigger. Winchester 127 grain Ranger with another mag of the same.

Or, my favorite piece of all a Smith & Wesson Shorty 45. I removed every single part that was blued and sent them all to Ron Mahovsky and had him Metalife them so the dang things would quit rusting. It worked, they don't. It has night sights, and no other mods. One or up to four spare mags, all depending. I carry my own very carefully assembled handloads with a home cast 255 grain Keith bullet at standard velocity. The Shorty will feed anything, includind an empty case.

I use the same Bagmaster IWB holster for both weapons. It also carries a spare mag.

Back up is a Kel-Tec P3AT hard chromed. This is a recent change and I haven't settled on ammo for it yet. I really don't like such a tiny caliber. Usually carry an ADC derringer in 45 acp/auto rim but I'm trying out the 380. We'll see.

Gun: Smith and Wesson M&P Fullsize
Caliber: 9mm
Modifications: None
Sights: Stock
Laser (if applicable): n/a
Ammo: Federal Hydrashock 124gr
Holster: Blackhawk SERPA
Belt (if applicable): 5.11 carry belt
Miscellaneous: A CRKT M16 tactical folder, ASP Palm Defender OC spray, and sometimes a Ruger LCP with FMJ loads in either a pocket holster or ankle holster.

I too have taken to carry the M&P9 full size, as it is my current favorite gun. I just want to ask how you go about concealing it in the serpa holster? I usually do IWB with a loose t-shirt or button up over it during most of the year.

My setup:

Gun: M&P9
Caliber: 9mm
Holster: Galco Triton IWB
Mods: None
Ammo: Federal HST 124 grain
Belt: a surprisingly nice walmart special "workbelt" for $12

Sometimes I conceal, sometimes I don't. I use an IWB if I'm doing something I specifically want to be concealed for, but generally I don't care. I live in an open carry state. I don't go out of my way to open carry, but I have more of a "I don't care if you see it" kind of approach. If my shirt covers it, great. If not, great.

Gun: WALTHER PPS
Caliber: .40 S&W
Modifications: NONE
Sights: FACTORY NIGHT SIGHTS
Laser (if applicable): N/A
Ammo: REMINGTON GOLDEN SABER
Holster: UNCLE MIKE'S CLAMSHELL IWB & POCKET
Belt (if applicable): LEVIS DOUBLE LAYER
Miscellaneous: CARRIED WITH FLUSH-FIT 5-ROUND MAG, 7-ROUND IN POCKET FOR BACKUP. ALSO CARRY A MEDIUM KNIFE (HK VEX TANTO CURRENTLY) AND A SUREFIRE 6P LED.

Gun: Kel Tec PF-9
Caliber: 9mm
Modifications: Limbsaver grip sleeve
Sights: stock
Laser (if applicable): no, thanks.
Ammo: Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP
Holster: a very basic Galco IWB holster, which works perfectly.
Belt (if applicable): nothing special-- not a 'gun belt'.
Miscellaneous:

-- SOG Trident (Tanto blade)
-- courteous nature, good manners
-- smile

Gun: Kahr PM40
Caliber: .40 S&W
Modifications: None
Sights: Stock rear, tritium front
Laser (if applicable): None
Ammo: Federal HST 180 gr. or Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 180 gr.
Holster: Desantis Nemesis pocket holster
Belt (if applicable): N/A
Miscellaneous: two spare magazines

Gun: s&w model 60-18 5"bbl
Caliber: 357magnum
Modifications: none
Sights: stock adjustable
Laser (if applicable):
Ammo: 125g rem GS
Holster: bell charter oak m&pIII
Belt (if applicable): dollar store leather
Miscellaneous: El Paso leather 6 loop 44cal snap over ammo carrier holding a 5 rd speed strip.

A pic to go with my previous post.

Also my reloads are 140g leverevolution. Simply cause there's no exposed lead in my pocket and the pointed bullet may speed a reload ever so slightly should things get really ugly.

Nice S&W 'Trail Gun'. Here is the bad news. The barrel is too long for fast and smooth draw plus strips are next to useless for speedy reload.

Gun: ltd edition SW1911. It came with traditional recoil guide+plug vs full-length rod. Also came with grips seen in photo, and wearing a sweet polished-stainless finish.

Caliber: .45acp :)

Modifications: added stainless grip-screws, original were 'black oxide' and rusted way too quickly :cuss:
Added a forged-steel slide-stop, as the MIM slide stop broke on me before I had even reached 500 rounds! Now I'm at 3000 with no further issues :)
Also after much testing and practice at the range with and without, I've chosen to carry it with a recoil-buffer-ring installed around the guide-rod. Takes the 'edge' off the recoil, and may or may not spare the gun some wear n' tear.

Sights: Novak three-white-dot that came stock

Laser (if applicable): Newp, not I

Ammo:Hornady 230 grain XTP .45acp +P JHPs

Holster: IWB made by THR user 'Savetheclaypigeons.' Got it for a GREAT deal, like too good to be true, only that was months ago and I have no complaints! :) Awesome holster, worth every penny and then some. (seen in photo)

Belt (if applicable): This is where I've seen some folks 'not quite get it.' A good belt makes all the difference in the world! I am now wearing a Desantis belt with the S&W logo printed into it, that I purchased from the S&W online store. I've been wearing it for several months and I love it! It's very sturdy, and also comfortable, holds my 5" steel 1911 and holster with no issues. The sturdiness means no sagging, which takes most of the 'felt' weight out of the equation. With this combination of belt and holster, carrying is not a pain in the anything :)

Miscellaneous: In the winter time, I carry my extra mags in my jacket pockets, and if I take my jacket off I put one 10-rounder (Chip McCormick power mag, same but 8 rounder is in the gun) in my left pants pocket. I'm a righty, and don't want to change my grip to grab a spare mag! I usually have two 8 round mags in my left jacket pocket, and two ten round mags in my inside right-side jacket pocket, much easier to grab with left hand than left-side inside-pocket.

I practice drawing from holster and firing every time I go shooting.

here's a photo I just snapped for this thread (feel special now) of my holster, belt and gun combo:

Very classy outfit.....,but if bad guy trying to rob you has one in their pocket with finger on the trigger I rate your chances as ZERO.

I assume you're a credentialed firearms instructor to pass judgment from on high as you are?

It is a bit long but I practice and can go from buzzer to shot on a timer in just under two. Faster than my glock 26 from a iwb holster. It doesn't take much time to clear two more inches of leather. You just need to train to make sure you clear clean and don't hang short

As to reloads I agree speed strips are merely spare ammo. But you know what? They're much faster than the speed loader I can't/wouldn't carry because they print like a third arm and are far too large to go in a pocket.

Its all a compromise but I take assurance I carry a side arm that can make a 100yd shot should I find myself in one of those ever more common "active shooter" engagements and as an avid outdoorsman the added accuracy is definitely welcome.

Besides at 6'-3" I have the reach and draw to work with a longer bbl than someone of average height.

If you go for a gun in this situation you've as good as committed suicide no matter what or how you carry.

Heres another nugget of "advice" from THR's latest ccw expert

Yes placement is key. Two shots from LCP to center of mass at very close range using FMJs. There isn't really need to practice.
