Did anyone else see the "50 Greatest Guns" on the F&S website?

The first 3, Winchester M70, Mauser 98 and Winchester M12 shotgun, WERE ALL USED BY THE MILITARY!

Field & Stream, what would Mr. Zumbo call you since you support military weapons? Are you terrorists because you use military weapons? Do tell.:scrutiny:

Another elitist "gun writer" needs to go.

Found on the 'net.

See: http://fieldandstream.blogs.com/gunnut/2007/02/zumbomania_davi.html#comment-61299904

In 1994, Field and Stream David Petzel wrote:
The American public -- and the gun-owning public; especially the gun-owning public -- would be better off without the hardcore military arms, which puts the average sportsman in a real dilemma". An Uzi or an AKM or an AK-47 should be no more generally available than a Claymore mine or a block of C4 explosive.
He has NEVER, to this day, learned anything about military-style rifles, apologized, or done anything to undo the harm his words continue to cause.

He needs to follow Zumbo into retirement.

You’ve been swinging a two-edged sword. A United States in which someone can be ruined for voicing an unpopular opinion is a dangerous place.

Any time some fringe group realizes that they are a fringe group, they start hugging the 1st Amendment like new born to his mother bosom.

“Oh the horror! Oh the terror! You must accept our ideas and traditions!”

BULLHOCKY!

The 1st Amendment ONLY gives you protection from the government silencing you. It does not say that the public can't do all in its power to shut you up but taking its money elsewhere.

Grow up! You are NOT going to dominate the debate any longer. Good or bad, most gun owners don't hunt. So we have guns for amusement, protection, and to fulfill out obligations under the 2nd Amendment. Even most hunters understand that if the S ever did HTF, the most valuable Minute Men would be the hunters who can nail an enemy in the chest at 300 or 400 yards. They see the direct link between their “sporting arms” and the 2nd Amendment.

All you elitist snobs stop using the Constitution as a door mat for your hunting lodge. Go stick your fingers in your ears and “LALALALA” as loud as you can and leave the fight for gun rights to us if you have nothing constructive to add.

I noticed Petzal called us, "yahoos." I've zaped the heck out of their time4 & F&S's websites this morning telling them what I think of their stance on HR1022.

At least he served in the military

and carried such evil weapons of destruction and so is in a much better way of knowing and not just talking out of his hind quarters like Zumbo. Besides that was almost 15 years ago. Things have changed a lot since then. The AWB put more military firearms on the street and had more people using them than any kind of pro gun legislation could ever have done. Peoples attitudes have changed a lot since then, I bet his has as well.

If you have any issues with high blood press DO NOT visit the F&S blog link for Petzal.

Some of the comments in support of Zumbo and Petzal and the damage done by owning any equipment without the Fudd seal-of-approval will make you sick.

If the posts accurately reflect the sentiments of many hunters, they agree with Zumbo 100% and believe owners of military type sporting rifles are placing their hunting and hunting rifle interests at risk.

What a thing to happen.

arthurcw,

One helluva post!!

Another asking permission to use your analogy.

FWIW. True, I burned my sanctioned cards, quit shooting registered skeet, did not renew memberships to some clubs - and this w-a-y before the Great Equipment race. Others followed my lead, with the same attitude.

Drop it, go forward and pass forward as passed to me/us Freedom.
If some want to follow others blindly over the cliffs, that is there right.

I have the right to NOT do so, and the responsibility to pass forward Freedom to others that do want "it" and do get "it".

Screw 'em, feed 'em fish head and rice. - 'Nam era saying.

Did you trade a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage ?

What is in the water these days that makes people think that a public apology excuses all past wrongs?

Field n Stream is the "outdoor" magazine for people who's vehicles never get off the pavement, and think they are "outdoors" when they fly out to their vacation home on Martha's Vinyard.

I live on Martha's Vineyard and have " no legitimate use" for my AR's,FAL,HK's,AK... as these rifles are unlawful to use for deer hunting so it's a minor miracle that this place is one of the safest in the United States ( unless you go around accepting car rides on Chappy :scrutiny: ) and not overrun but these horrible terror weapons or the X dozens of others that are barely restrained in their safes.

To all the chatroom heroes who made him unemployable, I have a word of warning: You’ve been swinging a two-edged sword. A United States in which someone can be ruined for voicing an unpopular opinion is a dangerous place. Today it was Jim’s turn. Tomorrow it may be yours.

Dear Mr. Petzal-

The very minute that I ever speak out against the chosen equipment of any sub-culture of the shooting community, you can feel free to publicly crucify me.

Zumbo is a hypocrite. Judging by your support for the 1994 ban on so-called "assault weapons," so are you.

Here is my response to D.Petzal

Have any of you "Outdoor Enthusiasts" read the contents of HR 1022? If you had you would understand the Idea that the Second Ammendment and eroision of it are not about Hunting. The Idea that my gun is O'k yours isn't is ridiculous. Very common firearms are going to be included in the renewed "Assault Weapons Ban" . I am a hunter and a fisherman but the AWB as it stands is just one step closer to making even my 30-30 Lever a banned gun. Don't think it will happen? I suggest you read the list of Targeted firearms in HR 1022

Lucky bastage, you. I sling my Stoner with me around South Beach and Squibby in the wee hours just in case a 50 lb. striper jumps out of the water to jihad me. Especially around Derby time. :neener:

Americans, by and large, are a forgiving lot. We ARE the country of second (and sometimes 3rd, 4th, and 5th) chances. But somewhere along the way we confused words with deeds. “Mea Culpa” only works when you then step up, take your medicine, and make it right.

Hey, I just noticed something. 2nd Amendment… 2nd chances? 2nd chance to put the country right if the politicians fail us? Dang, our forefathers were a right smart bunch.

Problem is that there are a bunch of people who do not understand or believe in freedom as a high value. Lots of people do not see the connection between a well armed citizenry and freedom as did the founding fathers who gave us the 2nd amendment.

Just because someone likes to hunt does not mean he is a freedom lover; Communist hunt too, look at John Kerry. You can bet there are numerous other Zumbos in the mainstream of hunting and the industry that profits from hunters.

When they exercise their first amendment right to show their true colors, I think is is quite appropriate for anyone to voice his objection and to vote with his pocketbook. The world of journalism is awash with anti-freedom types.

Justin ~

I think we just did the online equivalent of the Three Stooges going through a doorway. :D (I merged some, too.)

Going to simply close any fresh ones that pop up from this point on, I think.

I read the link I posted above, and think that Jim just doesn't get it.

He seems to be of the mindset that justifying firearms ownership is necessary by way of a firearm being suitable for a sporting (hunting or target shooting)
purpose.

There is nothing in historical documentation of the Constitution or the Amendments to support his view. In fact, the firearms available at the time the Constitution was drafted were the very same employed by the British and Continental armies.

Logically, we should have access to any military arm.

When are the appeasers who attempt to legitimize firearms ownership going to realize that disarming the American people is the ultimate goal of the anti-gun crowd? Yes, that includes your $15k Krieghoff, etc.

Apology not accepted!

Zumbo went down because we got to his sponsors and advertisers. The threat of boycott is all that will make a difference. Petzal will not go down unless we do the same to him. I emailed Field and Stream and told them I will contact all their advertisers and boycott them. I found on the website that Jack Daniels is associated with them so I emailed them. Who are the other advertisers and sponsors for Field and Stream?

Oh, and I emailed the NSSF and told them that their ad on the front page of Field and Stream's website was right below the blog that is comparing law abiding gun owners to "mental patients".

And my favorite quote from there that summarizes it:

The quarry of choice (deer, elk, moose, whatever) has no chance of outrunning a long burst from assault weapons, and also it would ruin the meat to put that much lead into it!

What a genius...

"Who are the other advertisers and sponsors for Field and Stream?"

Chevrolet, Polaris, John Deere, Hampton Inns, Swarovski, to name a few.
