Is Mr Petzel from Field and Stream the next Zumbo?

http://fieldandstream.blogs.com/gunn...mment-61363592

Maybe its time to remind him that he has an opportunity to unite the gun crowd or further divide it.

One of the best responses in the blog I saw was one referring to F&S writer David E. Petzal which alluded to an editorial he apparently had forgotten he wrote a number of years ago, where he urged hunters to support the "assault weapon" ban in the vain hope that their guns would be spared.

I hope not.

Imagine for a moment, one of your best friends "steps on it, with golf shoes".

Guys like me call for everything short of his head on a pike.

You know this guy well enough to call him on the phone, chat with his wife, and ask how the dog is doing today.

How do you react? Do you pile on with men? Or do you defend your longtime friend, right or wrong?

As pissed as I am over Zumbo's comments, I have a hard time getting mad at his friends for defending him.

Let's not look to fight amongst ourselves.

I say it is time to bury the hatchet and move along.

Personally I would like to see someone in his shoes step up and make an effort to wake the Fudd's up and unite the 2A Crowd.

You shut up
Just because he is your friend does not mean he is infallible and that it is your job to clean up his messes

Agreed. You wait until he asks for your take on the fiasco, and simply ask him if he had a meaningful learning experience.

I also agree that it's time to move on. This thing can turn out to be a GOOD thing, believe it or not. It's served notice on the people who want to dink around with 2A/RKBA that we won't take it sitting down. Hopefully, the clues won't sail over their heads.

Remember too, that while a real friend will back you to the hilt publicly...he will also tell you privately that you screwed the pooch. I believe that Zumbo's friends have done just that.

It's been an interesting week watching the ire rise. Electronic grassroots on fuego.

Re-direct the energy towards the impending bills in Congress. That's where the real battle will take place. Flood the Congress critters email boxes, campaign or official blogs, Congress itself. Phone calls, to their state offices as well as D.C. locations, snail mail...

Remind them ALL, each and every one of the '94 election results. Remind them WHY the 2nd was added to the BOR's to stop this exact tyrannical Federal Congressional action of disarming the people ala, Brits in Boston circa 1775.

Find out who your Congressional Rep's staffers are. Write to them as well. (These are actually the ones who do 99% of the real work)

Let F&S (Time/Life) know what they're up against, but for the sake of your 'being necessary for a free state rights' hit Congress hard, hit them often, hit them accurately.

I doubt he is since Mr. Petzal already threw semi-auto owners under the bus back during the 1994 AWB in a Field & Stream Editorial.

"Gun owners -- all gun owners -- pay a heavy price for having to defend the availability of these weapons ... and the American public -- and the gun-owning public; especially the gun-owning public -- would be better off without the hardcore military arms, which puts the average sportsman in a real dilemma."

-- Column by David Petzal, "Endangered Tradition" column in Field and Stream, June 1994."

He has managed to hold his position at Field & Stream for another 12 years despite that, so I'd be surprised to see him go just for defending Zumbo (and why wouldn't he defend him? They share the same view).

In any case, this is a duplicate of a long-running thread in General.
