Well, I have the same model Pietta as you that I bought from DGW 3 years ago. I have shot it with both cap and ball and 45 LC in a Howell conversion cylinder. Both hit dead on windage wise at 25 and 50 yards from the bench and offhand.
Looking at my front sight from the shooting perceptive, my...
In part I agree with Ratshooter. I have a Rossi 92 carbine in.357 MAG/38SPL. I own bolt guns, ARs and a PTR91...that little lightweight Rossi is my favorite shooter...38SPL for plinking and 357 for close range hunting or serious work. Don't need to carry mags around, can reload and go as needed...

I have a custom 98 that I did most of the work.

I've shot .45 Colt BP and 777 loads out of my Howell conversion cylinder Pietta '58 New Army. Very accurate, both powders are messy but BP is more accurate. I used both 200 grain Speer lead semi wadcutters and 230 grain Meister hard cast. I used 40 grain charges which required heavy compression...
Recently I bought a full size Rock Island 1911A2 .22 TCM, the one with the extra 9mm barrel and recoil spring. The .22 TCM is cool but the 9mm rocks! I bought Meggar P18 mags for it and the 9mm runs flawlessly. Everything about the pistol is excellent (trigger pull, fit and finish, etc) except...
