Well if it's the most accurate, durable, and reliable glock generation made like stated, then I'd say it's definitely worth adding another glock to ones collection. The Gen5's increased accuracy from industry standard 4" at 25 yards to 4" at 50 yards, finish that is supposedly the best of any generation, and the reliability that if true is like the best ever for a pistol that went 11,000 MRBS we are hearing about. I mean if you're a glock fan this is a must have, if you never owned a glock this is a good first/only glock to own, and if you hate glocks then just keep on hating lol. You can't make everyone happy, but there's more going on than just a cut here or shave there with this gun. Yes, it still a glock and doesn't blow you away with its appearance, but if it does what they say then it's fantastic. Sign me up for a gen5 19 and 34 when they release them

Are the Gen 5s drop safe? (snicker)

I am interested in one, too. Reports are coming in saying smoother trigger and better accuracy with the lands/grooves barrel. I would be looking at the 19 version myself.

A couple of Glocks have briefly been part of my inventory in the past but I only recently decided to purchase a couple of Glocks for HD and, potentially, occasional carry. For a variety of reasons I selected two Glock 19s Gen 4. Didn't realize the Gen 5 was so close but I'm not sure it would have mattered. Fortunately the finger grooves are almost a perfect fit for me but had the option for no grooves been there I might well have liked that better. As it is, I can foresee no reason to replace my new guns with the latest edition. I teetered between the 19 and 17 and narrowly decided on the 19 for a number of reasons but could see buying a 17 (Gen 5?) somewhere down the road. Polymer striker pistols have become so dominant and ubiquitous that choosing a Glock has become the conservative, traditionalist selection which fits my nature. LOL.

My sentiments exactly now that I've had more time to read and think on this - improvements are improvements and if people still hate Glock then the Gen 5 probably isn't going to change that.

Where did you hear about the accuracy change?

I believe the accuracy changes will be from the new barrel design and improved trigger feel,

I'm not a huge Glock fan (I don't dislike them either) and, while I've often shopped them when buying a new gun, I've always ended up with something else. Well, the new Gen5 just may encourage me to finally buy a Glock. With the new generation, the price on the Gen3 or Gen4 may drop enough to finally put it over and see me buying a Gen3 or Gen4 G19, G23, or G26 (or maybe a .357SIG version when the Gen5 is made in the .357SIG models).

Zero interest. Most of the little tweeks that make up this new Gen 5 Glock are things other gun companies slowly introduce into their firearms over the course of model changes, without releasing "Perfection" press releases every day for a month leading up to the reveal. For example, Sig added some stippling enhancements, a rail, and a better grip to their P226 and P229 models. And just called it E2 and R models. Nothing outlandish like Glocks "SOMETHING NEW IS COMING ZOMG" from Glock's advertising team.

What I find even moderately more humorous. I follow Glock on Facebook. They have been releasing side by side photos of differences between Gen 4 and Gen 5 Glocks, parts such as inside the slide, the frame, trigger etc. The differences inside are even less stellar than the cosmetic parts outside. Yeah Glock, keep putting makeup on that same pig and calling it a runway model.

I like the changes made. Another good change appears to be that Ameriglo sights will be available as a factory option.

Kinda like the over-hyped Mayweather-McGregor fight? LOL

I'm looking at the new Gen5 19 for my new daughter-in-law. I had originally planned to buy her a Sig P320. Doh!

In the past lots of people have complained about the finger groves and the polygon barrel. Glock has taken away some ammo for the haters. Neither change does much for me.

I'll try one out and see. I'll likely get another G19.

If you like to dress up your guns, best wait a while for the aftermarket companies to catch up. There is almost no interchangeability from Gen 5 to previous models.

So how is the trigger? Any other details would be appreciated.

I found the trigger to be pretty decent but certainly not in the class of my PPQ which is a fully tensioned striker but that is a pretty high bar and many say that is too light for a CCW pistol. I could certainly live with the Gen 5 Glock 19 trigger as it is.

Here is the target I shot of 20 rounds at 7 yards. Keep in mind this is the first time I have shot the pistol and was at a disadvantage of not having a larger back strap for my larger hands. I also hate this kind of target because I can not see where I am hitting when in the black at the dungeon range LOL. So I was getting used to the Gen5 Glock 19 but on the last ten rounds I put most, 7 shots, almost dead center in the red and I was happy with that. I am very confident with a larger back strap and a few more boxes of ammo and the Gen 5 Glock 19 would be a really sweet shooter for me. I found it also to be a very soft shooter. IMO Glock did a great job on the Gen 5 and they will sell a whole lot of them.

To bad glock did not do away with those plastic sights, and sale them with decent sights from the factory as standard sights, every glock I have bought I switched the sights out ,

I agree that the stock sights suck in some ways, however I'm not sure upgrading them would help sales much. Guys that want basic night-sights can get them as an option. People that just want a handgun for whatever reason, will be happy with the stock sights. For those that have a specific set of requirements when it comes to sights will be able to easily swap out the stock set and toss them in the trash, without having paid more for a factory gun with Novak/etc sights.

I am gonna buy a HK VP9 SK (it has a actual trigger)and the heck with all this Glock Generation stuff. Geese, I guess I need a new version Cell Phone also!

After checking out the new Gen 5 Glock 17 and 19, I've decided that I will happily keep my Gen 4s. I didn't feel that the trigger was much better than the Gen 4s with the "dot" connector, at least not enough to make any difference in accuracy, at least in my hands. Surprisingly the lack of finger grooves did not make as dramatic of a difference in The feel of the gun as I thought it would, but it was still a nice touch. Still no trigger guard undercut though. Another nice touch is that the 19 now has a smooth face trigger unlike the earlier generations which came with serrated triggers for import points. I also predict that the magazine extraction cut out on the front strap of the 19 will be one of the chief complaints by most early adopters of the Gen 5 G19 and I think Glock would be smart to get rid of it. Also front cocking serrations, while not something I ever cared about, are something that many people have asked for but were omitted on the Gen 5.

Overall I would say that if I only had Gen 3 Glocks I would upgrade to the Gen 5 but it's not enough of a change from the Gen 4s for me to switch. But I will say that if the Gen 5 barrels are more accurate then I will keep my fingers crossed that they release a Gen 5 model 34 down the road.

Can someone explain why the cut on the front of the 19 for magazine stripping is so disliked? I've had dirty mags that needed to be stripped out before, I think it's a good idea imho.
