Buck has always been good about making hiker-friendly models. I remember the first time a backpacking friend handed me his Bucklite on the trail back in the Eighties. I couldn't believe a lockblade knife could be that light.
451 Detonics: I just bought that exact same Marttiini knife. $25 in the backpacking section of a great little downtown department store here in Knoxville that also stocks Opinels.
Sharp out of the box. I've been using it in the kitchen and on a belt when grilling. Handle is non-traditional...
I've spent lots of nights backpacking and always got by with a pocket knife, usually a Swiss army knife. The Super Tinker was one of my faves. Decently long blade, scissors for cutting moleskin, and the usual handy SAK stuff (can opener for the tuna, tweezers for ticks, screwdrivers for fixing...
The American Hunters and Shooters Association is a false flag operation made up of people who used to be in anti-gun organizations.
Their standard line is "We shoot and we believe in the second amendment but even we support whatever piece of anti-gun legislation is on the docket because it's...
Carrying in the horizontal position isn't a safety violation per se. The four rules are for handling the gun.
In addition to the examples above, think about the glass pistol case at the gun shop. Each one of those guns has to point at someone as they pass by.
However, once your hand goes to...
Niteforce CREE LED flashlight
Spare battery in back pocket
Big lockblade folder (usually a Buck Strider Tarani)
Small Swiss Army knife (Victorinox Soldier)
Bic lighter for lighting candles, BBQ, tiki torches, campfires
Bandana for wiping up spills, bandaging wounds, dust mask, sling
Cell phone...
"Glock 26 for your belt, 442 or 642 for your pocket."
Yep. Pretty much.
Decide how you're going to carry the gun. For pocket carry or ankle carry the 642/442 is king. Once you move to belt carry the Glock 26 starts making more sense because of the 10 round magazine capacity, and you might...
I carry a Victorinox Cadet in my backpocket because it's so thin. In a front pocket I've got a Buck Stryder Tarani locking folder.
If I only carry one knife it's a Victorinox One Handed Trekker.
Salty fingers are a major reason I like stainless steel. I have a few blued guns I've had since I was a kid in the Seventies and a couple of them have rust speckling that won't come out.
I use CLP on everything. For guns that won't get shot for years I use Corrosion-X. I just picked up some RIG...
I have kids, so I can't even contemplate leaving unlocked, loaded guns around the house. All mine are locked up.
The flashlight is a good idea. A big Maglite is safe to leave in any room, makes an effective impact weapon, and as a bonus light comes out of it when you press the power button. My...
I shot at the Manchester, TN shoot last weekend. Lots of fun, nice people, and I learned a lot.
Scopes are fine at Appleseed. Bipods aren't.
Most people were shooting 10/22s, and the staff were raffling off a 10/22 as a fundraiser. All three of the people who shot Rifleman in Manchester...
Don't forget the orange UT Vols shirt.
You know the old joke - do you know why people in Knoxville like orange? Because they can wear it on Friday on the road crew, Saturday at the UT game, and Sunday in the deer stand!
My last two triggerjobs on S&W revolvers cost around $70 each, which included the cost of the springs.
Couple things:
- New S&W triggers are not that great. I don't know why people gush over them. Every one I've tried has had a pull weight greater than the 12 lb max of my trigger pull...
Because unlike the local laws in Chicago or Las Vegas the rules concerning NFA arms are Federal and apply across the land.
The consequences of breaking NFA rules are pretty stout. It seems worthwhile to be careful about phrasing when someone asks a question that could land them in the stoney...
There have been some issues with locks engaging on harder-recoiling guns, but I've yet to hear of it happening with a .38. I have a 642 and haven't had any problems.
I wouldn't let the lock get in your way of buying an S&W .38.
Thanks for all of the great replies
I went to a friend's house this morning and shot a 10/22 of his with a TechSight TS-100 and Volquartsen extractor and hammer. That was a nice setup. I'm going to get the same parts, a front sight adjustment tool, and a sling, and call it good.
