I have tried quite a few different powders for 9mm, and I have found True Blue to be one of the most accurate for moderate (1000 fps) loadings. One of my favorite powders.
For light practice loads in a .38 snubbie, it hard to beat the ancient recipe of a 148 gr. wadcutter over 2.8 grains of Bullseye. For 158 gr. SWC, my usual load is 4.5 grains of Unique, but that is approaching factory velocities and does have some recoil in a light pistol. Unfortunately, the...
If the question is, do these velocities sound correct? The answer is no. Getting nearly 1500 fps from NATO 124 with a 4.7" barrel is highly unlikely. Two shots is not a very large sample, however. The reload velocities could be correct. I would shoot some more of the white box and see if you get...
On paper, maybe. But I doubt you will notice much difference. At any rate, a .30-30 is relatively easy on the shoulder. I doubt you will have a problem with any of the loads.
One other thing - be sure to "plunk test" your rounds for seating depth. The Bayou 124 gr. TC bullet profile will require seating a little deeper with some pistols. The ogive doesn't taper as much as it looks like and with my G26, the bullet was hitting the lands until I went to 1.08".
If I was wanting to really push 9mm, I would look at the 9mm Major loads people use in the open guns and follow all of the cautions about working up slowly and using new or once fired brass. They should be safe in a Contender, but some of those loads are really pushing the envelope. I certainly...
The brass is shorter because the Hornady FTX bullet is longer. If seated in a regular case, it would be too long to work through the tubular magazine. With a rimmed case like a 45-70, I don't see a shorter bullet and therefore a shorter OAL being a problem. But maybe there is something I am...
The most commonly used justification for magnum primers with an AR, is the belief that the magnum primer cups are thicker and reduce the chances of a slam fire. But some people have used regular small rifle primers for decades with no problem. I haven't reloaded enough 5.56 to have an opinion...
IMR 4198 seems pretty versatile for the .45-70. So far, I have only loaded plinking loads for my Marlin 1895 22". Using Lasercast 350 gr. hard cast lead and 25 grains of IMR 4198 I get around 1000-1100 fps and the recoil is fairly mild. I believe that same powder will get your 300 grain @ 2300...
It seems to me, that some people here are over-thinking this whole thing. The OP has a pistol that doesn't lock the barrel up tight. He has vertical stringing. The target from the factory shows vertical stringing. The gun has a problem. Maybe not a big problem and maybe within spec. for that...
Lots of good advice. But since it happened near the end of the match and the Bullseye load was pretty light, I'm guessing the gun just gunked up with powder residue. I had that happen before with light factory loads that shot dirty.
I'm thinking you may not get that velocity out of an LCP with that powder. I have been loading 3.1 gr. of 231 under a 95 gr. Magtech FMJ at about the same OAL you are using (.960 or so.) The book says that is right at max. It is a nice, accurate, light recoiling load, but I finally...
I use an ultrasonic cleaner and was very disappointed with the results at first. I found (as someone else has said) that it cleaned much better if I put only half as many cases at a time as it could hold. My brass looks decent now, but still not as good as it would if a tumbler was used. On the...
I wished for years that someone would come up with a rimfire rifle of a larger caliber than .22 - maybe a 6mm or a .25 rimfire. The idea was something with a little more punch for small game and plinking, but still cheap to shoot. The idea is moot now, I guess, since .22 is going for as much as...
