    Considering an AR-15, now ,,,,?

I don't know why people jump on Rob_S for the chart. Someone finally comes along, and shows what manufacturers are doing what, making research into what Carbine to purchase very eas, and people get pissy because their Carbines didn't do well. I recently decided to upgrade my AR-15, which has...

AR 15 (5.56) versus 12ga Shotgun for HD

Eh, 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. AR-15 has the advantage of precision, faster follow up shots, less recoil, faster method of reloading, higher capacity, and since some break-in's involve the bad guys wearing body armor, the 5.56 round penetrates that better as well. The shotgun is...

    cheap scope question..

One of the worst feelings I ever had was going on a hunt with a cheap scope, looking at possible shots out to 400 yards, and realizing that I wasn't sure if my scope was going to hold up to it. Add in the early morning and evening hunts on that trip, I realized my cheap scope wasn't very good...

    45acp vs .223

I am sure that the answer to your last question could be answered fairly easily with some ballistic gelatin, and a few rounds.

    45acp vs .223

Man, there has been some bad info posted lately, but there has also been some attempt by some to correct it. 1. Yes, .223 will tumble. Actually, all bullets that are longer than their width will eventually tumble in. There are factors that determine the distance it will pass through a...

    tumbling bullet accuracy.

Actually they can go up to 62-64gr bullets, but not the M855. It's not the weight, it's the length, and M855 is longer than normal lead core FMJ bullets. Best bet is to stay below 60gr, but he might be able to go higher. Your friend should have done some research prior, so it sounds like...

    Show off your hunting rig...

I have only gotten to carry it on two hunts so far, and both times I turned down the only opportunities presented. Hopefully my schedule/budget will allow me to start up again shortly.

One shot stopping power 40s&w vs 45acp

Exactly. Most encounters will end before shots are fired. Most shots fired will result in the bad guy quitting. Most times shots are fired, there isn't a fatality. Much of that is due to the mental condition of the bad guy. Most don't really want to be shot, and the whole, "OMG, I just...

    Ballistic gelatin test results : 7 1/2 birdshot (UPDATE: #8 shot, Post 75, 7/22/09)

    1. There is a big difference between frangible ammo that is designed to not penetrate, and shot, especially large shot like 00 Buck that is very good at penetrating. 2. Any use of Marshall and Sanow's "statistics" immediately raises the red flag. As mentioned earlier, including a shot that...

    Ballistic gelatin test results : 7 1/2 birdshot (UPDATE: #8 shot, Post 75, 7/22/09)

Probably not, because anyone who actually believes in using warning shots, also probably believes in using frangible ammo. :p

    Ballistic gelatin test results : 7 1/2 birdshot (UPDATE: #8 shot, Post 75, 7/22/09)

Bingo. Either you are in a situation where you are legally allowed to use lethal force, or you aren't. There is not really a middle ground there. Not to mention, warning shots are bad tactics, since it leaves you down one in regards to ammo.

One shot stopping power 40s&w vs 45acp

"One shot stops" = Term that people seem to get from Marshall and Sanow, and their very poor research, where a person who is shot once and stops is considered a "stop", but a person shot 10 times isn't included in the data. Never rely on "One shot". Too many factors are involved, many of...

    Ballistic gelatin test results : 7 1/2 birdshot (UPDATE: #8 shot, Post 75, 7/22/09)

Using a firearm in self defense is legally considered using lethal force, whether or not you are using birdshot, buckshot, or rubber "less lethal" options. By using lethal force (firearm) in defense, you are essentially stating that you feel that your very life is in imminent danger, and if...

    Setting up my HD shotgun.

Looking to restock my old Mossberg 500, either with a Speedfeed stock, or a Knoxx Specops, and I want to get opinions on which one to go with. Also, if anyone knows an alternative to the Surefire forearm, I would like to mount a light on this as well. Additionally, years back when I...

That M16 at the beginning of the movie "Sniper"

I seem to remember that he said he switched out the firing pins on all of his firearms prior to putting them away after shooting, for shorter ones, and "you would need a micrometer to tell the difference". His point was clear to me at least. It wasn't some sort of adjustable firing pin, it...
