Loading 148gr. Hbwc for .357mag. I need info

I have loaded thousands of the DBBWC in .357 brass using Trailboss. Works really well and accurate. I suspect they would be similar.

    duplex loads

What Elmer referred to as a duplex load did not involve mixing powders. he attached a tube to the primer flash hole to introduce the flash higher up the powder column. This was during WW II, and he would not discuss it as he did not want to reveal his idea to the enemy. Other folks heard of his...

    44 Mag Reduced loads..

185 gr DBBWC and Trail Boss. I've never seen anything requiring LRP. I just use whatever Large Pistol Primers are available. Never been an issue. In my revolver these rounds have the same POI as Full loads 245 gr. That is nice. Don't have to play with the sights.

    Ruger .44 mag carbine ammo

I had some of the .265 Hornadys I had bought for the .444 Marlin. I think they put that bullet together just for that round. If they didn't, they hit the nail on the head for the .444. I have the tube fed Ruger carbine, so I loaded some in .44 Mag cases for that. Seem to work real well. I found...

    Using .44Mag Dies For .44Spl

I can only speak for RCBS dies which is what I have. They include a washer. With the washer on the seating / crimp die, adjust for crimping your .44 mag. With the washer off, it is set for .44 Special.... in theory. To get a really good crimp you need to trim your brass to all the same length...

    1917 45 Colt

Brother in Law inherited a Colt 1917. He had a gun smith look at it and gave it the OK. Any advise on bullet choice. Plan to make some mild loads for him to try out. Hard cast lead semi wadcutters jump to mind but I have heard the rifling is very shallow in those six shooters. Any advise from...

    New model 17-3

See, that is the kind of gun porn that gets me in trouble ;-)

    New model 17-3

Thanks for the link. I did a search on gun broker and came up with a fraction that you did. I would much prefer an original, but with my search skills, I thought they were harder to find. That no-dash is exactly what fills my dreams. Now if there was a K38 with it.....

    New model 17-3

I see Smith and Wesson Custom shop sells a M17-3. How do these compare to an original? Do K38 Masterpieces come up for sale?

    Ruger 44mag

I have an old 3 screw SBH with the long barrel and a Bisley Vaquero both in .44 mag. I had to have a SW rear and a Patrige front sight installed on the Vaquero. My eyes could not pick up that silver front sight through the hog wallow for nothing. That being said, the dragoon trigger guard never...

    Favorite 44 Magnum loads

I just loaded up some 265 Hornady JSP over 22.5 gr W296. Quite a leap up from the 185 DBBWC over Trailboss I shoot most often. Wild and Mild right there. Loaded the 265s for my Ruger carbine. Haven't tried them in it yet, but plan to today. Wife asked me what the heck I was up to when I lit one...

Tell me about the 30-30 cartridge.

I gotta argue that point Saturno V. I had a one blow up on a buck right under my tree. Killed a lot of deer with my Marlin, but I did have the one fail.

30.30 VS modern inline BP for hunting

I own both. Unless it's black powder season there is no thinking to do. My old Marlin puts them where I aim and cleanly kills deer. I can unload it at the end of the day without shooting it. I have a follow up shot if I need it (very rare occurrence unless it is a running shot). And the best...

I fail to see that you have a problem. Last time I was sick I got to see what passes for entertainment on TV. I think the only problem you have is you need more brass.

    .44 Special Reloads

I recognize you received a lot of replies but one thing to consider. I load 185 gr DBBWC over trailboss as a target load. The nice thing is it has the same POI as a 240 gr full bull mag load at 25 yards (at least in my pistol). I find that to be a pretty handy situation. I don't have to change...

    30-06 Round Head

Yea, that Russian model is regulated by a screw setup at the front end. Settle on a load you like then regulate it. A Holland and Holland it is not, but it also is not a $45,000 piece of gun porn. As a utility rifle? I'm withholding judgement. It is something different in deer camp.

    30-06 Round Head

Yes, I know it's round nose, but round head amused me. Its not the rifle damaging the bullets that concerns me, it is will they hold together when they hit a deer. I am also aware I could get more velocity. My truck is capable of going well faster than what I drive it at also. I quit striving...

    30-06 Round Head

A friend bought one of those Russian made double rifles in 30-06. We both agreed that it needs round nose boolits to capture the feel of a double. I found load data in my Hornady manual for their 150 grain RN pills. I stuffed some with IMR 4350 in the mid range loading. The book claims 2700 fps...

If you handload, is there such a thing as an "overkill" round?

There is a serious flaw in your logic sir. Rifles have a tendency to multiply. I had one when I was younger (a 30-30 my father gave me). Now I'm getting long in the tooth and I'm tripping over the dang things.
