Back in 1980 a friend (later becomes bro in law) owed me $120. I realized that he would never come up with the cash. I accepted an odd looking rifle of unknown caliber in lieu of the cash. It took me quite some time before I figured out that it was a SanteFe sporterized MAS Mdl 36 in 7.5x54...
I use a recharge USB battery thing ( power pack , that i had,)and bought an adapter cable off Amazon. Now I can leave the chrono on all day and never have to purchase new batteries for it.
That is an awesome looking rifle Jeff. Please follow up with your review after you get it out to the range. I've been wanting a precision rifle for a while. It's hard to believe the quality and accuracy you can get nowadays for a minimal layout.
About 15 years ago I found a nice bring back k98 at a rural auction. Dang if I didn't get out bid by some old guy with a roll of bills that was larger than mine. If I remember it went for over $400 back then.
I have no idea about the dual stamps but that is a nice k98. Is that a Russian captured rifle ? W here did you pick it up? Every time I see one it goes for an insane price.
Yes, K98 s are expensive! I'm glad I picked up my M48 s when I did. They are great rifles. Don't think I've ever seen that metal plate on the stock though. What does it say?
So what's the story behind your rifle? Did you inherit it, traded for it , week moment at the gun shop ,or have you always lusted after an M95 Steyr. It's a nice looking rifle and would fit nicely in many a gun collection. Just curious!
Only if you want the "collector" value for the ammo. I went to ammoseek.com and found three different places that sell New PPU 8x50r for $1.03 on up. I know squat about the 8x50R but one site said it was interchangeable with 8 x 51 Label. You might want to look into that. I also found new brass...
Nice rig there. I always thought that the sks with chest rig and stripper clips was a great set up. All my shooting buddies thought they were junk and that you just had to have a 30 rd replaceable mag. I did get a few of the 30 rd sks mags but found them to be awkward.
It's sad in a way that building custom mausers is pretty much a thing of the past. I was looking just the other day and you can only find a few short chambered barrels at the usual vendors. Fifteen years ago you had your choice of contour and caliber. I think turning yours into a sporter would...
Thanks, I'm thinking the same thing. I've never shot a deer that was over 100 yds away. Bullet should be cruising around 2300-2500 fps at that distance. Maybe I'll just run some tests and see what they do.
So I picked up a box of 175 gr Federal Fusion soft point bullets for my old 7 x57 mauser. I now realize that those were designed for the 7 mm magnums. Does anyone know if they will expand properly on deer at the slower velocities of the 7x57?
For the longest time you could only use shotguns in the bottom half of Southern Michigan. A lot of guys were dropping deer , big deer, at over 100 yards with federal slugs in smooth bore shotguns. One such deer hunter I worked with at the prison had the unpleasant experience of working the...
Thanks for sharing TBear. I don't believe that I have ever seen a factory scoped SKS. I would love to have one in the collection. I just have a couple plain Jane Norincos and my son's Yugo. Not sure how this thread got burried and hence no other replies. Must have been a fluke because I think...
I would think that letting it sit in the sun would bring oil and dirt to the surface. Then you could simply wipe it off and repeat it desired. My stocks are not too dirty so I simply wipe the wood down once a year with BLO and a clean rag. Kinda "less is better" type thing. Nice looking Mklll btw.
Welcome to the forum Horskinator! I use to live in Lyme , NH but crossed the river into the Green Mountain state a few years ago. I didn't know we were supposed to upgrade as time goes on. I still use that Lee single stage press. Maybe I need to do some shopping around.
