10 years later....I found my scope!

My friend (NOT ME) put his AR-15 in a "safe" place and forgot he even hid it. He thought it was stolen by contractors in his house. Police report, the whole 9 yards. He found it accidentally a month later.

I have no idea if he had the guts to call the police and chose not to ask.
You would not believe how many people report a gun stolen and later discover that they nad only misplaced it.
Your friend need to call the police department that he reported his gun stolen to. They will most likely send an office out the confirm that he did recover his gun and write a supplemental report. The officer will have the gun removed from the NCIC database. If the gun is not removed from NCIC it will remain as a stolen firearm.

So a while ago I was cleaning up around the reloading room and found a misplaced box of 230 grain LSWC. Decided to reload them for my 44 MAG in 44 SPL brass the next day. Started to pull out the bags of processed 44 brass stored in the 5 GAL bucket looking for some SPL brass and I find the butt of a revolver buried in there. Turns out that was my 8 1/2" S&W 29 that I had been teasing my brother about borrowing and not returning.:p He told me he had returned it after that hunting season but I was like----yeah rite. Figure that I hid it there until I could take it upstairs and put it into the safe----4 years later!!;) So you could say I recently found a box of 500 SWC and a revolver to shoot them with----life is good.

Back in 86 i sold the farm.... i know bad timing... But anyway i still Dont know where the he11 i left the ford pickup or the 37 2 ton.... its was about a year later that i realized i didnt have either of them....

Woodford

Dad was a great gatherer of 1911's. If he found a deal, he bought it. After Mom passed, Dad purged the house, and moved into an efficiency apartment. Knowing how he distributed the 1911's, I knew he kept the Pacific commemorative (He was a Navy Officer during WW2, Korea and Viet Nam - that is a separate story!). After Dad passed, it took me 4 days to find the SOB 1911 in a one room apartment !

Hey, I have a friend that REALLY wanted a Remington 700 in .220 Swift. Kept asking other gun guys, looked on the interweb. Finally finds one and buys it. Goes to put it in one of his gun safes, and finds an identical one that he'd already bought and forgotten about

I'd always wanted a Savage 24 in 22 Magnum / 20 ga. Finally found one, a fixer-upper for a good price. Cleaned it up, removed the rust, found missing parts, refinished metal and wood and was happy with it. Finally my dream had come true!

Shortly thereafter I moved and did a full inventory. I found not one, but two other 22 Mag/20 ga 24s that I had bought 16 and 8 years prior.:eek:

Cool story.

If you like Woodford Reserve, you'll have to visit their distillery sometime. Really cool experience, their tasting at the end where they teach you proper tasting method is what really got me into bourbon.

Back in the 1990's a group of gun nut friends and I hit the area gun shows and always had at least one table. We carried a big tupperware box with table cover, pens, paper, tape, price tags, etc....To the shows. I can hazily recall one of the last shows we did as a group was the old Kalispell show at the Outlaw Inn hotel. A great Western Show.

Fast forward, ten plus years. I'm redoing my basement gun/loading room with new carpet, paint, electrical and a new outside door. As I'm moving stuff out from under the basement stairs......I find the old tupperware container and it seems sort of HEAVY. At the bottom I find a very nice S&W 6", K-38 a circa 1964 gun, in a cheapo gun case, with a $215 tag on it. Apparently I had bought or traded into it ...and FORGOT.

Also found seven different BUCK sheath knives, all wrapped together with a few , very decayed rubber bands. NO idea on the knives.

Still have the K-38. Wish I knew how I had acquired it. One of the guys recalled there had been a flurry of buying and swapping at the end of the show when we were cleaning up and going home. And...as we were staying the night as it had snowed and the roads were lousy. I think alcohol may have been involved.

That was MY best ever FIND.

I tore my house up looking for a box of Glock mags today... I know I bought a ten pack a year ago and I always assumed I put them up with my AR mags... wrong...:fire:

"Better than if you "bought the farm" Thanks for that thought Climb, yes its always way better to be this side of the grass....lol

Natman's law #14:
If you can't find parts you know you bought, buy new ones. The first set of parts will turn up soon after.

For stubborn cases, sell the gun. That always works.
Or, cart something around through three different moves, stumble over it in the garage or barn for 12-15 years. Finally throw it away because you're tired of seeing it.

Then need it a week later

Tore up my hobby room a few days ago looking for a set of Leupold rings I just knew I had. Gave up and ordered a set. Found them mounted on a Model 700 I forgot I had traded for a couple of days later while looking for a Luepold scope I just know I have.

Just retired last year and recently had a couple "Christmas in July" experiences when I came across several different boxes reloading supplies that I had ordered a few years back in anticipation of having more time in retirement, and of course had forgotten all about until I was cleaning and re-arranging my reloading area. The best part is that while I haven't checked yet, I'd bet that the same stuff would also cost more if I ordered it today. That makes me even happier.

Great stories, guys!!
I can't help it, I gotta chime in!

Years ago, many years ago, I gave my brother a Gerber folding fillet knife because he is an avid angler and was always saying how much he admired them but wouldn't plop down the cash. He was really surprised and happy to get it. A couple months later he called and told me he lost it. He was sure his kid borrowed it and didn't return it to its proper place.
Next birthday or xmas comes along and I give him another one. Same thing happens. This went on for a couple years and I had given him probably a half dozen or so folding fillet knives of various manufacture, and always good quality, but he could only get one or two uses out of them before they disappeared.
Then one day I get a phone call out of the blue. Guess what, he says. Found all those knives. Oh? Says I. Uh huh. They were in one of his storage totes individually wrapped in dirty rags where he stored his hunting and fishing stuff that is broken or he doesn't like and doesn't use. Say what? Yup, because that is one place he knew his kid wouldn't look for anything useful! They were ALL there. He hasn't said anything about a folding fillet knife since. :scrutiny:

I had a new 3-9x33 VX-III compact scope I took off a rifle I had to sell to pay CS. I hid it in the back of a closet where I knew I could find it in the future. 4 years later I went looking for it, but no dice. Turns out my wife threw it out during a spring cleaning binge thinking it was just a box! She didn't even bother to look in the box! :(
