1911 Shootout $4,000 vs. $2,000 vs. $300

That should work. I’d start around 1.260” assuming they plunk ok in all barrels.
I did LRN 230 at 5.1 hp38 @ 1.200 (recall) and it shot very accurately

I did the same with FMJ and it was not as accurate. I’ll try 1.260 and do a bracket load for testing

I was looking for the group, had to ZOOM in! that’s tiny

What’s the $200 conversion you did to get that kinda grouping?!?’

that’s a good price. .22 LR 1911! sounds Fun

Yeah. GENERALLY you want to go as long as will fit in the magazine and feed and plunk properly. My FMJs usually end up around 1.265”. But sometimes some guns like them shorter. My P220 has a rather short leade for example.

Sure. It’s fun. But if you’re intending to do a comparison of three 1911s at different price points based on group size it doesn’t really tell you anything useful.
I think it’s a good comparison because it testes the real world ability of the gun in a my hands. Maybe someone can shoot that T-Sauce like a Boss and not the Night Hawk. ?!?!?!?

A rest takes the human element out of it, more or less. That helps measure the guns. You can’t do a proper comparison with extra variables.
then that would be a bench rest gun?!?! I just don’t get the point of a rest

I can’t even see 25 yards

nobody likes Standing-off-Hand 5-10 yard shooting?

It is OK but I preferred 12-15 yards. Can't stand long enough to get much done anymore and getting out to do anything is the biggest problem. Walkers and dirt don't play well together.

Got a date with an orthopedic guy in less than two weeks to see what he can do to fix my problem. Arthritis and pain guys threw in the towel and suggested that option.

Shooting from a rest takes a lot of the human element out of the equation allowing you to see what the gun is capable of and how much you are incapable of. :D

I wish you the best with tour health.

My body or eyes is not 28 yo anymore! all of a sudden, my vision got worst last year

As Indiana Jones said, “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.” I have both years and mileage, lol. Advanced spinal arthritis, 2 discs are gone, and sclerosis of both shoulders. A touch of rheumatoid arthritis makes the joints ache. Vision is terrible and at the max of what can be corrected with glasses. Funny thing is that now I like heavy guns. Feather-light polymers are harder for me to keep on target; but give me a 50+ ounce 9mm or a Colt Anaconda and I can hold it steady. I can still pull off a 2” group at 25 yards offhand but it requires a really accurate gun, a 2lb or less trigger, big target sights, and a prayer. I have a Caldwell rest for everything else and that’s been very helpful for testing intrinsic accuracy of pistols. I think it was $35 from MidwayUSA, money well spent!

I heard 2 sand bags work well. should probably incorporate that in my test reviews. Be all Scientifical and everything

Without it you aren’t really comparing the guns at all, just how accurate you happen to be with the gun at that moment.

I can take the exact same two guns to the range on consecutive days and have completely opposite results depending on how I’m feeling at any given moment.

I guess if you ran times and group size over a period of time and looked at trend lines you might eventually find some conclusions.

Might actually be a fun experiment

Those tiny ones were with the one on top, an Advantage Arms "Target" 22 conversion for 1911's, using old stock eley primed, aguilla standard velocity, 40 gn solids. I'm the 2nd owner, got it off of https://castboolits.gunloads.com/ a few years ago.

I've had the one for the Glock longer but never made inserts for the machine rest, to see how well it can really do. I shoot my 8" plate rack with it at 60 yards offhand more days than not. My most shot .22, these days.
