Beautiful rifle putting meat in the freezer. Congrats.I shot this "doe" the day after Thanksgiving with my new old classic 1909 Mannlicher-Schoenauer. It was the 1st deer I've killed with it. I had to shoot it left-handed @ 60 yds. I'm right-handed. Luckily, I had the scope set at 1.5x.
Yes, I know it's not a doe but the state says any buck that has antlers less than 5" is an "antlerless" deer so I had to use a doe tag on it.

Can’t wait to read the story
Congratulations to your son. He set the bar high for the next buckMy son tipped this one over on Saturday from 172 yards across winter wheat with a 6 Dasher with a 105 Hybrid leaving the station at 2817fps, connecting at 2544fps. My son’s action hasn’t delivered yet, so I stuck the Bartlein barreled Defiance action of my match rifle into his Manners Gen 2 Compact Stock a couple months ago for Kansas Youth Early Season, but we didn’t get a shot that weekend. Heavy quartering away, my son drew a line from about his diaphragm through his heart, just into the socket of the far shoulder. The bullet drilled a hole through a near side rib, through the very edge of the near lung, and blew up, turning almost half of his heart into a crater, and pushing it through half of his backside lung in pieces. He scrambled on his belly for a bit under 10 yards to the edge of the wheat and rolled down a creek bank where he expired. Not a booner, but he’s bigger than either my or my wife’s first bucks, and at a younger age.

I am even happier that my father was able to get a deer this year.
He had a one knee replacement surgery back in August and was barely able to get out to our woods. The new knee was progressing well, but his other knee was hurting a lot (that one was replaced last week).
He got this spike buck with the Marlin 30-30 that he had originally bought for my first deer rifle. For a spike it was rather large given he got 10 more pounds of meat from it than I ended from the 4 pointer I took with my Crossbow (posted earlier in this thread) back in October.
