.32 acp... deadly

LOL!

A jolly good round if you need to use a small (concealable) weapon for use in an area where the sight of a larger weapon might cause problems AND you have to put down a wounded animal. Keep in mind, however, the OP had other weapon options available had they been needed. I suspect he might have sought something different had the OP been on that boat trying to subdue a wild boar, as was the case with our LEO.

hi Deaf,
no i don't use a silencer, it is something i have considered. But one or two little pops in a place where gunshots are extremely rare are not often recognised as such.

I thought handgun ownership was banned in the UK

under s.5 of the firearms act it is, except in certian circumstances. one of them circumstances is when you use it for humane destruction of animals. This is mine

So, for curiosities sake, and i don't mean to open a can of worms here, do you guys have these mass shootings like we do over here...I mean, does "no guns allowed" translate to "no firearm crimes"?

I use a Berretta Tomcat as my BUG. It has dispatched a number of injured animals! It is very effective! I use ball loads for this as they penetrate better. I don't like it, but it is better for them not to suffer!

It's a crime.

Well we do get them occassionally... not as often as you guys but i am not sure if that is just because there are proportionately less people here....

we get firearms crimes, and they increase all of the time. Who would believe that the criminals don't have firearms certificates!!!.... (grimly ironic) Infact the only people that the law has really had any effect on is the lawful firearms owner.

It was just another knee jerk politically motivated ballot box motivated policy in the shadow of the Dunblame massacre.

Interlock, since you are a sport for providing information from "across the pond", I'd like to ask you about your source of reloading components. Do you order the Hornady XTP bullets online? Are there any restrictions on getting components or ammunition through the mail in Britain? What about the powder; is it available locally and are there any "hoops" to jump through?

Really componants are quite dificult. i can get magtech FMJ rounds. I save the brass from these. One of our THR freinds mailed me 100 or so cases. Primers are no problem. I can get them in the gun shop... i need to produce my firearm certificate.

expanding amunition has proved impossible to get. I order my bullets from cliff in cedar city. I have checked and it is perfectly lawful to do so.

powder is no problem. i also load for my 20 gauge and 12 gauge so i can get vectan powder at £19 per lb. there are lots of 3 grain loads in a lb of powder!

I've done my own testing of .32 ball rounds on hams and other similar items for fun. I have plenty of faith in .32acp. Course I also grew up watching deer get taken down for food with .22lr. Having said that I don't suggest anyone violate hunting rules or try to kill stuff with smaller calibers just cause. Use the right tool for the job and all that. Times have changed. I just know first hand small caliber in the right hands is not without its ability to kill large game.

I am sure it is deadly when shot in a manner of putting down animal.

However, lets be cautions not to extend the conclusion beyond what it is.

This is an execution style shot. It has no relevance to fighting an armed opponent where opponents would not stay still to let anyone put a round in the brain stem from an angle that would allow sufficient penetration.

That issue is well documented.

The number of firearms crime is lower in U.K. than in U.S., however gun crimes and number of violent assault has increased in U.K. after the ban.
