I recently found 100 rounds of .45 +P in the bottom of my ammo pile. The only .45 I have with me is my Sig P220.

Is it safe to use +P is a Sig 220?

Sometime around the late 80's early 90's Sig started installing a heavier 20lb recoil spring in the P220. It was painted with some green paint and they rated for +P ammo. Earlier models had a 15lb recoil spring and they where not rated for +P ammo.

:) Four years ago, when I picked up my 220, I was doing the first cleaning, and I was upset, because I thought it was a new 220.. but what was all this green gunk all over the spring!!! I thought someone had unloaded a used sig on me, or improperly stored, that the spring had corroded. I meticulously cleaned it all off then....

I found out the green was by design...whooops....

Yes, it should handle +P fine.

I guess I got an oldie hehe. Oh well I am going to get a new one soon anyways lol.... the funny thing is my old sig is my duty weapon.

When you shot this ammo, make sure you lube your slide rails with grease and float a heavy oil over it.This will make sure your slide doesnt dig into the frame rails and increase wear.
