Just wanting to get opinions [or insider info, if you have it] on when Springfield Armory will begin releasing the 9mm XD-s to the stores. It seems like, after Shot Show 2012, the M&P Shield was quickly out for sale [when you could actually get one]. I'm hoping this is the case with Springfield Armory.

Hmmm, . . . well, I had my local gun store ready the paperwork for when they are available to order. I can wait.

I wonder how many people will get one? Up until now, most of the skinny 9mm pistols have not been much to my liking. Either a long DAO trigger, or a striker fire setup with only a mechanical "safety" of the "Glock type trigger". I like the idea of having the grip safety on the XD-s because it gives the added benefits of that type of safety in a gun you may need to pull quickly and fire [without having to manipulate a thumb safety]. I'll be getting one.

Won't happen.

S&W hit the ball out of the park with the Shield- they had preshipped 8,000 of them to distributors to be released the day of the NRA show last year when it was announced. So you could actually get a Shield the day after they were released. They've been running behind since the original supply sold out.

Springfield will do it like they did with the XDs in .45. Announce it at SHOT show, and the first ones trickle in four to eight months later.
