A little info for you guys. ATK just spun off a new company called Vista Outdoor. This new independent company now owns all sporting goods products previously owned by ATK. Including Federal, RCBS, CCI, Bushnell, Alliant powder, and others. I am sure, at least I hope, the quality as well as the actual manufactures of these products will not change.

Just because I thought you would like to know.

The news broke back in February as ATK (NYSE: ATK) and Orbital Sciences (NYSE: ORB) did a tax-free all stock merger to create two new publicly traded companies as Orbital ATK (NYSE: OA) and Vista Outdoor (NYSE: VSTO). Paul who posted on THR as Alliant Reloading soon added the following signature line - http://www.marketwatch.com/story/atk-completes-tax-free-spin-off-of-vista-outdoor-inc-2015-02-09

Perhaps he got spun off from ATK/Alliant to Vista Outdoor? Hopefully Paul got a promotion out of the merger :D

BTW, I pursue technical swing trading as a hobby second to reloading.

VSTO gained about 30% since February and ATK/ORB=OA gained about 60% since the low of Mid December. For many reasons, I only do short-term technical swing trading that ranges from several days to a few weeks. No long-term "Buy and hope" for me (and I usually avoid earnings, BK, mergers, etc.). ;)

As for us reloaders, I don't think much will change for Alliant powders, Federal/Lake City cartridges, Speer/CCI, Hoppe's, RCBS, Bushnell, Weaver, Uncle Mike's, BlackHawk!, Outers, etc. - at least I hope not.

Well maybe the new owners can produce bullseye unique red dot and green dot a little, wait no, a lot faster. Yeah that would be swell

Anyone know where Vista Outdoor manufactures it's powder?

Do they even manufacture any powders?

The "reloader" series for example, comes from all over the world, Sweden, Switzerland and the Dots and Unique are made in USA.

As Alliant, they not only formulated their different powders, they operated the only nitrocellulose and nitroglycerin manufacturing plant in the USA at Radford, VA.
but they lost the US Army contract to BAE Systems

As a share holder (prior to the split), I don't see I had an issue with it. I seem to be getting a decent dividend in a company I support. Can't complain with that much.

It will be interesting to see how the two new companies settle in.
