Bare shelf at Wal-Mart

Everyone's reaction to the DHS 4.5M round contract is so contrary to historical experience. .223 components and ammunition became plentiful and cheap because the government bought zillions of rounds. 9mm is as cheap and plentiful as it is because governments all over the world are buying it in significant quantities.

I think your guys shooting 40S&W should rejoice in anticipation of the long-term supply of cheap ammo.

My local WalMart requires a drivers license from everyone buying ammo.
It doesn't matter if you're 20 or 80...you are carded regardless of age.
It gets worse. They then swipe your license through the card reader on the register.

Does the purchase get stored on one of their servers? Probably.

Edit: And yes, I've complained to the store manager.

Swiping the license protects the retailer and the clerk as proof that the sale was in fact to a person of age.

Here in No. Indiana they even do that for spray paint. One of our benefits acquired from all the illegal drug problem.

I shop walmart. The last thing I bought was a carpet runner to lay down in front of my reloading bench.
It was made in the U.S.A. Nothing wrong with that.

I bought a couple 100ct boxes of ammo from WM too when I first bought my pistols. But then I found how cheap a case was online after shopping around. Then I found places like THR and that was the end of that also...

My Wal-Mart has been consistently dry for the last few weeks, the only thing no one is buying is Tula. So, every time I'm in there for supplies I buy a couple/few boxes of Tula to throw in the ammo cans.

What really concerns me is why does DHS need so much handgun ammo? Someone who has an idea as to how many DHS agents please do the math to see how much ammo that equates for each agent.

Decades ago the Customs Service threw away much more ammo than they were issued.

To cover all the new agents for their internal checkpoints, train and bus operations and VIPR teams: DHS is, quite literally, completely out of control and off the reservation.
