For those of you who have owned all three of these and carried them, which one did you find to be the most comfortable and why? I've carried the 1911 extensively and understand how it fits to my body. I've carried the G19 but not in a great holster. As for the G36, I've never carried one at all. Any input from those who have carried the G19 in a quality rig or the G36 is appreciated.

Daniel:

I ccw my G19 in a tuckable Galco USA. Relatively fat and square handgun and tends to be uncomfortable. The square slid makes reholstering very difficult and oftentimes I have to remove the holster to reholster. The G19 is however very light. I suspect the G36 (the slimline Glock) may be a good middle ground between a G19 and a 5" 1911.

M1911, hands down. I carry with a holster of my own design, that puts leather between the butt of the gun and skin when you carry under a T-shirt. That makes the M1911 an "any-weather, anywhere" gun.

The primary factor in comfort for me is weight. The G36 will be a heckuva lot lighter than your 1911 - probably about a pound lighter(!). I've carried a CZ-75B (about the same size as a 5" 1911) and it conceals fine and all, but it's a PITA to lug around for long periods, at least for me.

I'd go with the G36.

I found the 1911 easier to conceal than the G19, but too heavy to be comfortable.

Having carried a 1911,a Glock 34 and a Glock 26 concealed carry all day at work I am going to say that of the three pistols you list the Glock 36 will be far and away the most comfortable to carry if you get the right holster for it.
That Glock 19 would be a real, real close second.
For an open carry belt gun the Glock 36 would be the least noticable but all would be fine.
I now carry my Glock 26 all the time at work and use both a Milt Sparks IWB holster and a Blade Tech IWB holster.
As much as I like plastic holsters, the Milt Sparks is far and away the more comfortable IWB holster!
When carried in the Sparks leather, I can go nine hours and don't really notice the handgun at all.

Of the three, the 1911 is the best for me. The shorter barrels of the G36 and G19 tend to pinch me, where the extra length of the 1911 helps to prevent this.

The best IWB carrying pistol for me is an alloy-framed Gov't model. Combines the light weight of the polymer pistols with the size of the gov't model.

I've concealed all three: presently I use the G36 in a SmartCarry, which seems to be the easiest to conceal. I can wear jeans and a t-shirt and not have any danger of being made.

Frankly, the G19 is not a ton harder to conceal than the G36 in a SmartCarry.

Standard IWB holster? The G36 or the 1911 would be a breeze, since they're both plenty thin. In fact, the 1911's length might aid carry by stabilizing the pistol.

Compared to the Glock 19 and 36, the 1911 is like carrying a toaster oven. Its longer, taller (backstrap), and heavier. Add in the fact that most 1911 guys prefer a leather holster, and the 1911/holster combo is thicker than a medium frame glock in kydex. Longer, taller, thicker, and heavier does not translate into easier to carry.

Edited: at least IMO. :)

best regards
