I will post pictures as soon as they come in. They are supposed to be here Tuesday and the best part is that I am off that Tuesday and the following Fri, Sat, Sun. Can anyone guess what I'll be doing? lol - I think it will be cool to have my Socom II and it's two granfathers on the same bench...awesome!

Just got the email this morning! The CMP has sent both of my rifles overnight via FedEx! Yay! Expect pictures tomorrow and possibly a range report.

Cool! I'll give you one tip that I missed when I got mine a couple of weeks ago: after breaking it down and wiping off all the cosmoline you can see when it's field stripped, go ahead and take off the gas cylinder so you can remove the forend wood and clean off the cosmoline around the barrel and the gas tube. That's the one thing I didn't do before I took it to the range the first time, and after a dozen or so rounds, melted grease started flowing like candle wax out from under the forend, and puddling up on the bench.

That is hilarious....lol. Yeah I plan to clean them as soon as I get em, then our agency has open range day tomorrow and Wednesday. I cant wait to shoot those babies!

i just got 2 bayonets of 4 i ordered... hopefully the other 2 are in another package, the email said they were all part ofa the same shipment. :uhoh:

1KPerDay, when did you order your bayonets? I ordered one earlier this month and I was just curious how long the wait will be (I saw the rifles are 15-30 days...when I ordered my rifle it was 90-180, it took closer to the 90 days).

got the others today. greasy but they look to ge in good condition. Packaged extremely well in boxes like Chinese puzzles.

I ordered thme on 12/6. I ordered some HXP the same day and it also came today. :)

Well I can see why you picked them. Beautiful.......makes me want to drive down just for the experience. Thanks for sharing yours with us.

Sappnasty-
I meant to comment earlier on the photos. Very nice. I especially smiled at the sixth one. Brings back the quote about not being able to invade the US mainland as "there is a rifle behind every blade of grass"......or was that a dandelion leaf?

Regarding the Tim's comment on the cases....they are quite nice. The CMP logo is classy. It is probably the nicest case I own now. The only downside is that I practically have to sit on it to get the latches closed. I guess they have to be snug to survive FedEx.

Sapp...are your cases grey? Mine was OD.

Does cmp ever run short of service grade garands? I'm looking forward to getting one, but it would put me in a real pinch(money wise) right now.

Yes, but it's not that they are running out of them, they just have to take the time to check them out as they are unpacked. Save your money, because the biggest mistake I made when I bought my first one a few years ago, was not buying enough ammo.

I'm Happy With Mine

I ordered one last year and was really pleased with it....

Personally, I'm not brave enough to walk into a CMP outlet... Cause I know I would leave BANKRUPT !!!!!!!!

FlyinBrian: that is the funniest tag line I have seen in years... I'm still LMAO

Good Evening,

I just filled out the all the paperwork today, and got all of the required info together. The order will be in the mail tomorrow for a Service Grade H&R. If it looks half as good as yours, I'll be more than happy.

Now the waiting begins, Ken

After reading all the post and threads on this and other forums I can also say I have all my paperwork in order to order a Garand. I will order a H&R just for the later production and hopefully minimal use. The next one could be a SA for historical purpose's. I have to agree with 1KPerDay that all rifles from the CMP will not look as good as sappnasty delivered. sappnasty has some fine garands and he went and hand picked them. Something some of us can not do easily. Well Monday the order will be in the mail and will see what comes.

A side note any difference between the hxp ammo in enbloc or the loose? price and rounds per $ amount are close. thx deadeye

The Service Grade Specials are virtually new, unused rifles with a current production walnut stock. Both the Springfields and HRAs are post Korean war vintage.

The Correct grades have USGI stocks.

Of course, there is a cost for such nice rifles.

The Service Grades are great rifles but may come with USGI stocks or new production birch.

For a first Garand, get a Service Grade or better.

It's the same excellent ammo, either way.
