I have had my CCW for three and a half years in Missouri. I made some vinyl stickers for my vehicles that simply say "CCW" and my expiration date. I placed them on the back windows of my vehicles so that they are visible if stopped and or approached by LEO. I did not worry about any one seeing them, as the only people that would know what it meant was LE and other CCW holders. I have been pulled over for minor traffic vilations, speeding, etc, and they have not been a problem.
I have also seen advertised on many CC, tactical gear, and other self defence sites, Concealed Carry shields, badges, etc. I have thought about getting one. I just wonder if they would cause problems, as most of them look like LE shields and badges.
How would LE react initially to seeing that type of badge, and if it would make your situation difficult? Does anybody have one of these?

Its not very concealed if you are wearing a "concealed carry badge", now is it?

If you're real proud of your gun and want everyone to see, just open carry it.

I'm jealous you live in a state where you can get one!

But then, I have a 25+ year friend who lives in VT, where you don't need a CCW to conceal, and he thinks that I'm 'terrifying' because I shoot and sell bullets & powder to local shooters.

So I sent him a picture from last Friday, with my children and I posed with our ARs.

I expect he skulk away in silence.

Get one of those Dog The Bounty Hunter kind that goes around your neck and hangs by a gold chain.

Over 40,000 people in CA have CCWs. You're in Orange County, right? Up until a couple of years ago, you could've gotten one. Next year make sure you DON'T vote for Sandra Hutchens for sheriff. There are a couple of other candidates (Bill Hunt & Craig Hunter)who have very good CCW positions. Keep your eye on their campaigns and go with whichever one you think will do the job best.

Dan, did you know that nearly every single CCW issued by Mike Corona was reversed?

At the time cost close to $500 to get one (there were tons of things to do, or forms to submit, so the end total was about $500). Which makes it an expensive bet (issuance was not guaranteed).

You know those photos you get during campaigns of the candidate standing by a pile of guns to be destroyed? Those are the ones I call and tell them there is no way I can vote for them, just because they used that photo. (They will often say it was part of their job in LE to gather them up.) Whether they agreed with the gathering and destruction or not, whether I love their position or not, just because they used it as publicity for the campaign, they are off my ballot.

wifey

I know many of them were reversed, maybe half (including mine), and restrictions were placed on many of the ones that weren't.

Let me rephrase that--mine wasn't reversed. It came up for renewal, when Hutchens was still in the early stages of implementing her tighter policy, and it was determined that my good cause no longer met the standards of the department.

First off why don't you just paint I carry on the side of your vehicle if you want to advertise the fact. the LEO pulling you over allready knows you carry providing you have a MO state ccw permit as it is tied to your drivers licens in the first place. and second concealed means just that, wearing a toy badge with ccw on it just makes you a flippin target.

I live in Indiana so we don't advertise our RTC's. That sounds like a very bad idea! We do not tell LE's anything, unless they ask. Our RTC's are not tied to our Drivers License and I never offer any information to an LE, anywhere I go, unless asked directly. An LE has nothing to fear from me, I am not going to shoot one and also it is just really none of their damn business what I have in my car. The more info you give an LE the more likely you are to incriminate yourself.

This is probably bigger business than you thought. It's not just pre-made badges in the back of the magazines, either. Both Smith & Warren and Blackington, who make real LEO/EMT/FD badges, offer custom CHL badges (they do require a photocopy of your CHL with the order). One of the samples I saw looked exactly like the badge used by Ft. Bend County, Texas, something I thought was a really bad idea; it even had a state of Texas seal in the middle.

I considered getting a badge for a completely different reason: I work at home and OC in the house. Whenever someone comes to the door, I have to throw on a shirt or jacket to answer the door. This sucks in the summer. I thought about getting a custom badge that said "Home Protection" or "RKBA" to have something I could hang on my belt to forestall weird looks and questions. However, the $80.00 price tag to get a badge that didn't look like any of our local LE badges made keeping an overshirt handy far more attractive.

Bad Idea

Criminals read gun forums and the gun magazines you do, you don't need a CCW to purchase a copy of 'Soldier of Fortune, or 'Combat Handguns'. If you think about it logically, criminals have more real life experience with guns then you do, and thus reading such magazines would prove beneficial to them. They are very aware of concealed carry permits, and know what CCW means. Criminals like guns, they will steal them. If they know your car or house has them, they will burglarize you.

Advertising that you own expensive things is not a good idea. A sticker on your car that shows your interest in firearms/or license to carry is not a good idea. It does not warn thieves that your not "a guy to mess with", instead provides them critical information about a target. It's the same reason you don't wear a Rolex on the NY subway, no sense in making yourself a target, and giving away valuable information.

As far as badges go, if you want, sign up with your local sheriff's office.

I like to wear black slacks, white shirt, and nylon jacket with CCW in big yellow letters on the back, and also in smaller letters on the front... I also wear a black ballcap with yellow CCW on the front...

I wear a cool gold CCW badge around my neck on a chain..

And then I open carry.

Well I don't think I want anyone to know I CC and in my state the numbers on my permit are my drivers license # and I don't want that to be public at least these days. The less you know about me the better, besides when I am confronted by a LEO I am bound to show my CCW if I am carrying at that time.

This is old news, I thought everyone who carried, knew criminals don't need to know that when they need a gun, that they can always come to you and take yours. If you think that having that badge and sticker is going to help, just ask a cop. Someone who wants your gun will wait for your back to be turned, and hit you in the head with a bat. Badges can get you locked up if you run into the wrong cop. My dog refused to be referred to as "the dog" after that series came on tv.
By the way it can also get you shot, if you carry money, ie: deposits, instead of stick em up, they will just shoot you, giving you no option.

I think some of you are taking things out of context. I did not say I was going to. I said I thought about it, and was wondering what others thought, if it was a good idea, etc. I got that. The sticker on my vehicles is 3 inches long, by an inch high. you'ld have to be on my ass in a vehicle, or standing right behind, which is what happens when getting pulled over.
Some of you guys sound like my wife. I mention something, and you think I'm going to go out and do it right now.
I told the officer as soon as possible because I didn't want him caught off guard when he ran my plates and DL, and have the situation get out of hand. I warned him to be curtious. If some one wants to break into my vehicle in an attempt get a weapn thats not there, have at it. I don't leave my guns in my cars.
And like I said, those that know what CCW means, either have one, are LE, or don't care. And if a criminal sees it and knows, good luck to them trying to get it my weapon form me. If you were a criminal and saw that on my vehicle, would make an attempt to attack and or rob me knowing that I have something, or move on and take your chances some where elses.
Some people take things and blow them way out of proportion. And just so you know, I have thought about taking them off my vehicle, just for some of the "reasons" you guys think. And I agree that whether or not I have a CCW is no bodies business, but with LE, why take the chance that you have some rookie or some one that doesn't think people should be allowed CCW's, a reason to make a simple interaction, a potentially bad one, by having him/her get trigger happy, upity, or other.
I asked a simple question. And expected a simple response, not a scolding from the anti group. You guys need to rethink your tactics. These kinds of response make me want to move on to another board. I thought we were, maybe not on the same page, but atleast in the same book.

You're going to get the same response from any gun/RKBA/CCW board you go to because advertising that you carry is foolish.
The fact that you've got CCW stickers on your vehicles and are considering a CCW badge tells me that you're enamoured with the novelty of being armed and have not given nearly enough consideration to the responsibility that it brings.
Lose the stickers and forget the badge, concealed means concealed.

"but with LE, why take the chance that you have some rookie or some one that doesn't think people should be allowed CCW's, a reason to make a simple interaction, a potentially bad one, by having him/her get trigger happy, upity, or other."

Do you really think this is or will happen? Come on even you know better than that. To me carrying concealed is a surprise factor if need be. Lets say you and your family are out shopping do you think if the BG sees your stickers or what ever signage you may have is going to stop him from getting what he really wants. NO he will just be more careful in how he surprises you and gets your weapon in the process. You wont have a chance to use what you have to protect your life and your families. This is my opinion and you have yours.
