Concealed carry identification?

You're going to get the same response from any gun/RKBA/CCW board you go to because advertising that you carry is foolish.
The fact that you've got CCW stickers on your vehicles and are considering a CCW badge tells me that you're enamoured with the novelty of being armed and have not given nearly enough consideration to the responsibility that it brings.
Lose the stickers and forget the badge, concealed means concealed.

Exactly. Well said.
As far as the cops go, I am under the advice that you let them earn their money and keep your trap shut unless your state demands you tell an officer you are carying. I can think of zero positives with prematurely announcing to anyone you carry a firearm.

No attempt to scold here. Simply put,..I personally wouldn't sticker my vehicle or home. And I wouldn't carry a badge,..thats what your permit is for,..to ID you. The badge means nothing,... and in fact would likely cause you more grief than not with any LE I know....So save your money, upgrade your carry, your tactics and your supply of ammo. Spend it on range time. Just my .02

It's asking for trouble. Just like people who are waiting for an opportunity to tell out loud they are carrying, other people are waiting for this same person to tell it out loud to **** them up.

You take stuff way too personally. If you would have done a simple search on this forum, you would have been able to predict the type of responses you received. If you really think a badge is going to solve any of your perceived problems with LE, then get one. Good luck.

People without a permit, and that are not LE, definitely know what a CCW is, and what it means. But to follow your logic, if they did not, to what purpose would a badge with "CCW" on it serve?

I think handcuffs and a badge hanging from the rear view mirror kinda does it for the ladies. cough cough

The assumption that only cops and people with carry permits are familiar with the acronym "CCW" is laughable on it's face. The idea that a fake badge would in any way ease interaction with cops is not just laughable but dangerous. If you're going to post foolish ideas on forums be prepared to be told you're being foolish. When people point out the problems with your thoughts, don't take it as a personal insult. If you'd like to see the difference between criticism of a bad idea and a personal insult feel free to PM me and I'll give you an example. ;)

Let's not forget that 4 LEOs were shot and killed in Parkland, WA last week for nothing more than (...all together, now...) wearing a badge.

I'm certain that most LEOs would frown on the idea of a CCW badge more than they would appreciate the forewarning that you may be carrying. You would be viewed by them as a "wannabe", for lack of a better term, and to them your intentions would be questionable, at best.

In a previous life, I wore a (real) badge and they do the job they were intended to, and do it well. They identify you, be it as a friend or a foe. Identifying yourself goes against the whole idea of CONCEALED carry. Additionally, by wearing such a badge, you've provided yourself the same opportunity to become a target as the officers in Washington without the same training, equipment and support.

Four (or one) LEOs ambushed in a coffee shop for just wearing a badge = statewide manhunt and a nation following the story to conclusion.

Guy wearing a CCW badge ambushed in a coffee shop just for wearing a badge= a blurb on the 10 o'clock news and the viewers scratching their heads wondering "What the hell was he doing with that badge??"

Carry concealed, keep it low key, identify that you are carrying only when appropriate or required.

I agree that whether or not I have a CCW is no bodies business

So you propose to tell everyone? I think everyone in Detroit knows what "CCW" means and every thug who passes the rear of your parked car will know that if he waits long enough in the area, someone is going to bring him a free gun.

I considered getting a badge for a completely different reason: I work at home and OC in the house. Whenever someone comes to the door, I have to throw on a shirt or jacket to answer the door. This sucks in the summer. I thought about getting a custom badge that said "Home Protection" or "RKBA" to have something I could hang on my belt to forestall weird looks and questions. However, the $80.00 price tag to get a badge that didn't look like any of our local LE badges made keeping an overshirt handy far more attractive.

Why is this any different than getting a CCW badge and using it outside of your domicile? It is still going to confuse the cops and the non-carrying people.

Badges are for cops and mall security. CCWers have permits, not badges. There is no need for both.

Heck, why stop at badges, just get one of these:

Up til now the CCW badge was the dumbest thing I'd seen. It's been demoted to second dumbest.

I've seen folks carrying guns many times - some wore uniforms and I assumed they were law enforcement officers (but kept in mind that being a cop didn't mean I didn't have to keep an eye on the guy with a gun), some were guys who thought they were carrying concealed (and I kept my eye on those guys too), some were guys in civilian clothes wearing a badge in some fashion. Some, I thought, were cops. Some were clearly not. Some were in the middle. I've always wondered why a guy with a gun with no uniform would want to advertise that he was carrying.

It's kind of like the guy that has NO gun but is wearing a badge or something that says POLICE when he's in the 7-11 getting a big gulp. I've always wondered what the hell those guys are thinking? If I'm going to rob the quickie mart, I'm shooting the first guy I see that says POLICE anything.

When you have a permit and you are carrying, sometimes it's beneficial to tell a cop you have a permit. Sometimes it's not. (I don't know if you live in a 'must inform' state, do what's legal,) But if you post it in your window, you don't have a choice anymore, do you?

If you drive to a place known to be a place you can't carry, you now have a sticker that says; "I carry a gun, but since I'm a law abiding citizen, I just took it off because I can't carry into this building, and it's under my seat. Work fast, you can get to it before I get back."

If a cop is so jumpy because he doesn't think carrying is good, it doesn't much matter at which point he finds out, he will be a d*** no matter what.

If you want a badge, become a cop. I have come to learn that being an armed citizen and being a cop are two very different things with different interests. In some states, if you show that badge, you will probably be charged with impersonating.

In the few times I have been pulled over in the last several years, being a permit holder has gotten me out of getting a ticket. A better policy is to not get pulled over in the first place. As I have gotten older, I have come to realize that you don't miss the time it takes to get you there driving 5 mph slower.

I get the impression that the people that go out of their way to inform feel like they’re giving the cop the “secret, good guy, sheepdog hand shake" when they disclose.

It's almost like they're somehow trying to identify W/ the cop. :scrutiny:

*former patrolman's opinion*
i would much rather you not have a sticker on your back glass. my preference would be that when i approach your window, the conversation go this way:
"good afternoon."
"good afternoon officer."
"may i see your driver's license?"
"yes sir, it's in my back pocket. before i dig for it, i just want to let you know that i have my pistol on my hip. my concealed carry license is also in my back pocket. would you like me to step out so you can secure my pistol?"
"no sir, that won't be necessary. dig out your license for me. thank you for volunteering that information."

There is a secret Sheep Dog handshake

Yup it's in the quote right below your's

yes sir, it's in my back pocket. before i dig for it, i just want to let you know that i have my pistol on my hip. my concealed carry license is also in my back pocket. would you like me to step out so you can secure my pistol?"

UMMM, no

How about I just have my wallet in my hand when you walk up to my car and I just don't answer any of your questions?
