Do you carry the pistol you shoot best?

If you believed that there were a 50% chance that you would be assaulted in the next month, What gun would you carry and why? Is that the same gun you typically carry now? If not, Why not?

In my case, I would carry my 5" 625 because it's the gun I have practiced most with and the one I occasionally shoot in USPSA. I usually win Revolver Division and place comfortably in the first half of the field overall at club matches.

My EDC is currently a 3" SP101, used in the interest of being discrete. I don't shoot it as well as the 625 but believe that I would prevail with it in most situations I would with the 625. Discretion would be much less of a factor if I truly believed I was likely to need a pistol in the next month.

The gun I shoot best (get the highest scores with)is a High standard Supermatic Citation. Not a "carry gun". I carry a S&W "j" frame .38spec. which I qualify with yearly and feel confident with. I have carried for over 30 years now.

I have a primary carry and a primary competition 1911. They're virtually identical.

If there was reason to believe I would be assaulted within the next month I'd probably carry two Kimbers and try to always be close to a rifle or shotgun.

I would rather carry a 45 Kimber year around but have to carry a smaller gun in summer.

Personally I shoot most all guns about the same, so it's not a matter of how well I can handle the gun but if I can conceal the gun.

If I knew there was a 50/50 chance of me getting attacked this month, I'd be carrying my Saiga with an extra 30round magazine.

But yes, my designated carry gun is the pistol I shoot the best.

The gun I shoot best is a rimfire pistol

I do carry two of the top four, though, maybe two of the top three mattering on the exact goal.

But my Ruger mkIII is a target gun, not a suitable defensive arm. I don't need that kind of precision for defensive uses, and that gun is bigger and heavier than pretty much every centerfire pistol I own, and is a lot bigger than my carry guns.

Yes, but only because the gun I carry is the only gun suitable for ccw that I'm not currently trying to sell. I'd hate to have to post on my own for sale listing "sorry, but I had to use this gun for its intended purpose... until further notice, it will reside at my local police station"

If I wasn't trying to sell it, I would probably carry my XD 45. It's hard to argue with 40 rounds of 230gr .45 ACP. Especially when it's only clearing the way to my shotgun

That being said, I definitely don't feel unarmed carrying my Sig P228.

If you had asked me this in December, I would have said yes, same as I have for these last 9 years. Now that I have had some good shooting with my SP-01 Phantom, I would have to say that I shoot it even better than my CZ P-01, even though it is quite a bit bigger. Carry holsters forthcoming, I hope.

I cannot imagine an scenario where I'd carry an arm that was "less than best."

Which would include having an SNCO in full mother-hen mode and a pro detail around.

But, unless meaning I'm far from home, and have to engage in ad hoc arming, I'm not sure I'm appreciating the nuance of your question.

I'm most accurate with my Ruger SR9, and I do carry it quite a bit. But if I need to go with something smaller it's the Glock 36. Luckily I shoot pretty good with that too.

50% chance of lead

I ccw Kimber's Pro Carry II in case of poop contacting the rotary oscilators again. However, if I knew for sure the worst was going to happen to me I would carry my S&W 4" .45 Long Colt with 350 gr swc at slightly over 950 fps. Crack head, jack*ss, or 400 pounds of two leg evil---350 gr .45's don't care.:neener:

Of the two guns I own that are intended to be carried for defense, I do indeed shoot one better than the other. That one is a Bersa Thunder in .380ACP. The other is a Kel-Tec PF9. However, I carry the KT almost exclusively due to its light weight and slim profile, and I'm only marginally worse a shot with it at the range. In combat/defense conditions, I'd bet the differences are almost immeasurable.

I shoot my .22 best. I don't carry it.
To me, unless you are shooting competitions, handguns are not supposed to be super accurate. They are supposed to be easily portable. You can't have both.
One time I was at the range shooting my .45, and the groups were bad. A guy I had been talking with that day heard me say I was disappointed. He took my "bad" target and held it up to his chest. They were all COM hits. His point was well taken.

I shoot competition with my g17, it has a lot of trigger work and other mods, making it unsuitable for carry. I carry a g19, no mods other than the same sights as my comp gun. I obviously shoot the 17 better, but its a marginal difference.

I really only shoot two of my guns.
My E9 and as of late I've been dusting off my 92D. So yeah, I guess I do carry what I'm best with. Because there's only two things I carry. 8)

The pistol I shoot best is my Swenson 45 acp.
The one I carry 99% of the time is an aged High Standard 22 magnum double barrel. Why? it is easy to carry concealed, shoots plenty good enough. Before that I carried a Remington 41 cal rim fire over-under.

Neither are target pistols, but both are handy.

If I knew I was going into a bad situation it would be one of my 44 mag S&Ws Probably my mountain gun.

Bad question of a hunter to answer. Evething i shoot really well is way heavy and to large to carry daily. I do carry either a KT p-11 or pf-9 depending on how conceled it need to be. I shoot them well enought to hit minute of body while running while getting out of a tight spot.

Well, I can't say that I'm not going to be assaulted in the next month...or day, for that matter, so I carry a pistol that I shoot well and is reliable.

No, it's not the one I shoot the best, but I'm confident in my abilities with it.

The reality is most of us don't have the luxury of knowing when something may happen to us; as such, we carry :).

no, my 5inch 1911 is a little heavy for daily use sometimes (i do carry it but im also waiting on a new holster/belt to get to me)

i do carry a S&W Sigma .40 because i am a dam good shot with it, it has good cap. as well as a powerful round.

Nope I sure dont carry the one Im best with. The one I shoot the best is a 10" T/C Contender in 357 Max. In the winter I guess i could carry it but in the summer it would but silly for me to wear a jacket to cover the shoulder holster that I use for the T/C. If I knew I was gonna be attacked I would probally just stay home. If I had to go out that day rather than just packing my 226 in 40 or my P95 I would take both and keep a shotgun and rifle in the truck.

At 10 yards or under, I shoot my Model 26 as good standing walking forward or sideways as good as I do my other handguns in quick acquisition and shooting, and in moving and shooting.
