What Pistol do you carry.

So over the last several months (years) I have been looking for my perfect carry gun. I have been carry a Glock 43 and have been really happy with it. I will still carry it and have no plans to get rid of it. However, with some recent events I wanted something that had more rounds and still be as close to concealable.

I also have back issues so weight is a factor for me. Also as a result of my back issues, running is not an option I have recently found out, so in the unlikely event of being caught up in an active shooter situation my action plan is to get hidden and ride it out if there is no easy exit. Hints the want for more rounds than the 43.

The Glock 19/23 has been at the top of the list, but carrying the 23 is difficult for me. It is a great gun and very reliable, but it just does not carry as well for me. I have had a 26/27 in the past, but that is only 3-4 more rounds. It was something I was still thinking about. However, once you add the extensions on the magazines you might as well just carry a 19/23 in my opinion.

I came across the M&P 9c. It holds 12+1 and like the Glock you can use the 17 round full size magazines. I knew it existed, but I had never looked at them. I have never really heard/notice anyone talk about them. I must say I am actually kind of shocked. I have always heard about the M&P triggers not being as good as Glock triggers and people putting in the apex triggers. I had only dry fired them years ago and was not impressed at the time. The one I picked up actually had a nice trigger, but it is missing the noticeable reset the Glocks have. However, I can fix that with a $23.00 Apex RAM kit. Other than that I would not change anything. I actually like the trigger a lot otherwise, and I am not sure I will change to the RAM part or not.

When loaded the MP9c is going to be under 30 ozs which was a key factor for me. I noticed the mp9c seemed very slim for a double stack so I took a few pictures comparing it to my 43 and this is what really shocked me. There is very little difference in size. The slide is a little thicker than the 43, but that is not really a issue. The 43 does win for being lighter weight and there will be some days that I may need that with my back issues. However, the MP9c conceals as well as the 43 for me with 13 rounds of 9mm. I have tried to make it print and cannot just like the 43. I think I can get over any trigger complaints, and honestly that is something a little bit of practice can solve. I am more accurate with it the a Glock anyway.

For me and my needs this seems as perfect as I can ask for.

Summer, a Polish P-83 in 9MM Makarov. The other seasons it is either an HK P7 or CZ-75D PCR.

Distilled to: Double stack 9mm striker fired polymer pistol with night sights and premium JHP ammunition

^describes by daily carry for the past 11 years. Individual pistols vary, but the trend has been towards larger (mostly I carry a full size now)

My edc depends on weather, clothing and activity. Summer in shorts an a tee shirt I carry a Springfield XDS,9mm, with a 10 rd mag, or 7rd. mag, and have the 10 rd, mag as a spare. I usually carry it in an AlienGear iwb holster, and sometimes in the same AG owb. I also carry a Kimber Ulra cdp 45 acp in a custom Blackhills iwb. I use either a 7 rd. mag with one or two spare mags, or sometimes an extended 10 rd. mag as a spare or in the gun. I just bought a Walther PPQ M2 9mm that I carry in a TRex iwb appendix holster, with a TRex iwb mag holder, Magazines are 15 rounds each. This, and my Kimber, are what I usually wear with jeans, or slacks. In the cooler months with any type of jacket, it's my Walther, or Kimber, in iwb or owb.

H&K VP9 with one sometimes 2 spare mags depending on where I'm going.
Federal HST 147 grn +P loads. Most accurate I have tested.

Also on occasion a Colt Agent .38 snub if dress is a factor.

My EDC is a S&W M&P .40 full size most of the time with a .40C in the summer. I usually carry them in a leather DiSantis Speed Scabbard OWC. Sometimes I carry the .40C, Ruger LCR or Ruger Speed Six in a vertical shoulder holster as a BUG. Most times I have an AR-15 8" pistol in a tennis racket case in my truck as a SHTF gun.

I am retired living on my BOL farm but I spend at least two days a week near Dayton Ohio. Most times I am in very low threat areas but I do visit Cinci and Dayton fairly often. I have a bad knee which makes me limp so I feel that I make a tempting target which is one of the reasons I carry.

Summertime in Oklahoma is just a little hot, but a Kahr CT380 fits nicely in a cargo shorts pocket. Winter time a Walther PPS is added. I used to have a Ruger LCP, but the Kahr fits my larger hand better.

Summer - Arcus 94 in IWB holster
Winter - the same but in OWB holster

Gen 4 G23, 180 gr HST's, spare G22 mag in a desantis pocket mag holster in the weak side pocket. When wearing a jacket or untucked shirt, the gun rides in a High-Noon OWB open-top slide guard. For other applications where pocket carry is the only option, it rides in a desantis nemesis pocket holster. This limits my choice of pants, but IWB is not an option. I'm fat.

I suck it up and carry an HK VP9.

I shoot it well, it holds plenty of ammunition, and so far has been 100% reliable. I put up with the size because it is so easy to shoot it well. I've shot a Walther PPS M2 plenty enough to know it is also a nice little pistol and quite reliable, as well as a few other sub compact pistols and a S&W J frame. None of them even comes close to being as effective at making bullets go where I want out to 50 yards as that VP9. I have a SIG P226 X5 that isn't really any more accurate than the VP9 is, and the X5 is huge and heavy. My Kimber Super Match II is a bit more accurate but weighs a lot more, is harder to conceal, isn't as easy to shoot fast, has no night sights, no light rail, and holds half as many rounds in the magazine. That isn't to say that the X5 and my Kimber are not good shooters, they are both exceptionally accurate. So is the VP9 though. That is how good that pistol is.

I have only read the OP ...

During the warm months when I am out&about my KelTec P3AT is usually in the right rear pocket of my 501s.

When I leave the house I am not preparing for a Battle, I just want to have a chance to "have my say" if I find myself in a bad situation and there is no reasonable chance to skedaddle.

My EDC

I carry a Shield 9mm, in an alien gear iwb holster at about 4 o'clock. I'm Left handed. Have a spare magazine in my weak side pocket. With a decent gun belt, I forget that I have it on after about 20 minutes. This set up conceals completely in almost any outfit I would wear, summer or winter. The gun has been 100 percent reliable over 1000 rounds with both reloads, and my current defensive rounds, which are Sig Sauer 124 grain Vcrown hollow points. I switched to this setup from a Taurus 709, and have never looked back. The Shield is a bit larger, but the Taurus was a mess, with reliability, and point of impact problems. I also like that the selection of holsters and accessories is far greater for the Shield as well. I am always looking for a better option for edc, maybe with more rounds, but not too hard, because the Shield does it's job so well.

My EDC is a Walther P99c in 9mm with Talon grips and Trijicons. In a Desantis Slim Tuk kydex AIWB. 10+1 HST 124g. 15rd backup mag with grip adaptor loaded with Speer Gold Dots 124g +P. The P99c is easy to conceal, has exceptional ergonomics and accuracy. 100% reliability. Also quite sexy in my opinion. I like being a little different so not into the Glocks, Xd's, and M&P's everyone else carries. Also carry a Kershaw Leek. Streamlight Protac 1L.

For many yrs and now sometimes, a Colt Combat Commander.
4" N frame in shoulder holster was a chiropractic nightmare.
Do like to toss a LCP in a pocket.
Next will be a 329PD and or a 340PD.

Gotta go lighter stuff, now with bad back/neck.
Pretty touchy on holsters, no IWB for me.
Good high ride leather works well at keeping things hidden, but after hrs really jacks me up. Cooler weather I go with a plastic OWB and a jacket...........way more comfy.
Summer has me carrying mousegun in a pocket holster.
Guess I'm officially old now.

Did like my M60 no dash with bobbed hammer, why I want the 340PD.
Buddy has one..........Corbons are NASTY in it.

Challenge accepted :)

At work: Issued 4 inch S&W Model 686-6 on a duty belt with two double speedloader pouches, handcuff case, Taser®, ASP baton, OC spray pouch, Motorola radio, flashlight; 2 inch S&W Model 12-2 in a cargo pocket holster; 1⅞ inch S&W Model 642-2 in the other cargo pocket holster; two speed strips in a back pocket. Why? It's work, and I went from one back up to two in light of recent events.

At home: 2 inch S&W Model 12-2 OWB strong side; 1⅞ inch S&W Model 642-2 in front pocket or weak side OWB, 2 speed strips in double drop pouch back of belt right of center. Both conceal under an un-tucked shirt unless I want to OC. Why? I have trust issues.

Traveling: 3 inch S&W Model 13-3 OWB strong side, 2 speed loaders ; 2 inch S&W Model 12-2 OWB weak side and/or 1⅞ inch S&W Model 642-2 in front pocket or weak side OWB, 2 speed strips in double drop pouch back of belt right of center. All conceal under an un-tucked shirt unless I want to OC. Why? I really have trust issues.

I don't carry to have a gun to pass off to my wife or anyone else. My wife has her own gun - a 4 inch S&W Model 681 with Crimson Trace grips. Anyone else should have his/her own gun.

Why revolvers? My wife doesn't like guns that shoot back. I can't carry a 1911A1 at work. I qualify on the same course as my officers and outshoot their Glock 22s.

I grew up with single actions.
I carry a uberti 45 colt 4.75" barrel SA. Loaded with wadcutters.
IWB or a pancake. Xtra ammo in a old police dump pouch.
Sometimes i carry an old school charter arms 44 special.
