Do you ever wonder if you have too many different types of rifles?

I have multiple of the following different types of rifles:

1. Remington 700s in 30-06
2. AR-15s
3. M1 Garands
4. AK47s
5. Mini 14s

The only two uses that I have for my rifles are hunting and the very remote possibility of a SHTF scenario.

I hunt with my Remington 700 (deer) and my AR-15 (varmint). Of course, the AR would work just fine for an end of the world zombie attack.

My problem is that I can see no practical role or use for the AK, Garand, or Mini-14s. If I were to take any of these (AK, Mini, Garand) hunting, it would be a step down in accuracy and performance. The AR or Remington does a much better job. I also can not imagine not grabbing my AR15 if a Katrina type event occurred.

Has anyone else gone through the same thought process as me on this? Any advice?

(I know someone is going to say, "send them to me"... So, I beat you to it)

Depends on if you want a strictly working collection or if you want some variety.

The Garand is a piece of American history. A full power reliable, accurate semi auto battle rifle.

The AK is a cheap blaster with Wolf/Brown Bear etc.

The Mini is very PC.

You'd be just fine with the AR and 700 if you want to limit yourself to strictly purpose driven guns.

Its all about where you want you collection to be.

Do you want for me to send you my FFL's address for that Garand? :)

I do agree that sometimes I wonder why, other than for collecting sake, I have so many diferent makes/models. Certainly it is not per need. :) I think it is a matter of collector/hunter/target shooter versus hunter/target shooter.

Two part answer:

1) You can never have too many rifles.

2) I only wonder if I have too many when it comes time to restock on ammo.:D

No actually. This is my entire rifle collection. Good for plinking, deer hunting, home defense, survival/shtf. It's very possible that I'll never buy another rifle. I just don't "need" one. I have several that I want though.

I realized I had four different .30 calibers and decided three was enough, so I sold my .30-30. I had too many calibers. But too many types of rifles? Impossible.

Even if you are not really a collector it is nice to have a lot of guns.
As I and many others say you can never have to many guns.

Too many guns ?

If U have too many send the extra ones to me. I am starting a "Home for Old Guns", a place where they can spend their "golden years" in comfort. I will care for them, keep them clean, well fed and give them a little "outing" from time to time just to keep them active.
If you can count them you don't have too many.

We have .50's .45's .44's .41's .38's .375's .36's .32's .30's .277's .22's.................
Center fire, rim fire, black powder, just no pin fires or 9mm please.

Nope. I need a Lebel, Berthier, M1917, and P-14 before I have one of each for my bare-bones WW1 collection. And don't even get me started on the cold-war semiautos.

I've got a bunch of Cowboy Lever action rifles

Several pump shotguns

several double barrels

10 Savage heavy barreled bolt actions at the moment.

Several 22 rifles

2 Ar 15s

Of the centerfire rifles that I own 4 of them are 223s 2 are 204 rugers 2 are 25-06, and there are several more 22 cals thrown in as well.

So no, of course I don't have 2 many different rifles. I am just getting started the way I got it figured.:neener:

Yes, yes, I do often wonder that. I go back and forth, back and forth:

Want more guns, need more guns. Variety is the spice of life.

Crap. Must simplify guns & calibers. Life too complicated. Need to get good with just a few.

Nope, don't believe there's such a thing as too many when it comes to guns. If I wanted to be practical, I'd have a .22, a .30-06, and a 12 gauge. The 70 odd others I have are the gravy.

No I never wonder that and I always want more. I have a fair number of guns I've never even fired (I actually plan to sell some to help finance law school or I would keep them).

Simply having them makes me happy. I like to have a varity of guns and there are enough out there that I just think are really cool to keep me buying guns for years to come. Need has very little to do with it. I could drop 10k tommorow and only put a dent in the list of specific firearms I want/plan to buy.

i'm sort of like this. always rounding the egg, so to speak

just an observation: i know a lot of "collectors" and I know a lot of "shooters" but i don't know anyone who is really both. that's not to say the collectors never shoot, or the shooters don't own a lot of guns. still, motives and behavior are interesting.

I was talking with my bosses about this regarding hunters the other day. I told them there were hunters and there were shooters and there were a few shooters who hunted.
