Do you KNOW what guns you own?

I doubt I could recall all of the firearms in my inventory off the top of my head alone.

I could, however, recall if I have a perticular make/model if I was asked if I had one or not.

That is, if I was prompted to remember particular items I could but a couldn't just generally list them all. Does that make sense?

I'd be in bad shape if I couldn't remember, because I started buying guns last September and only have three so far. I can see where this could be a problem in the future, because I'll accumulate several guns a year at current pace and that can really add up.

A form or gun records

In the UK if you have a firearm, even if its an antique, and you wish to shoot it, it must be registered on a Firearms Certificate - registered with the police -at a cost of course. I have over 40 modern guns and antique repros, together with a number of muzzle loading antiques, such as single shot percussion and flintlocks, pocket revolvers and Reminngtons, pepperboxes, saloon and zimmer pistols etc. To keep track of the ones I shoot, and the ones I don't, I have a page per pistol loose leaf folder with the following info on each sheet:

Name and Class of pistol, Picture, Reasonable desription, Proof Marks, Police Certificate Registration - with serial number where appropriate, Reference for antiques in der Neue Stockel, Dimensions - bore, barrel length, load, ball size, patch size etc, Value - where bought and for how much - and estimated current value, Condition = good, poor, state of blueing, repairs needed etc, and finally a graphics picture of the normal target it is shot on - and the aiming point with a picture of the sights.

This info is of great value when you pick up a pistol to take down the range and shoot it for the first ime in a couple of years.

That Pistol Book-

THAT is dedication to your hobby. You HAVE to do all that garbage just to stay legal? My Lord!!!

Welcome to THR!!!

Yeh, I know.

I keep a spreadsheet containing all the info about each gun I own. To do otherwise is totally irresponsible. Oh, and that spreadsheet is backed up on several different types of media.

Let me assure you that in case of a burglary or loss of any kind, I could inform the Federales of the particulars of every gun involved.

I wish I had more than I could count like some of the guys on the forum. I've only got a few years invested into guns, so as of right now I only have 3 guns. A .22, a 12 Guage, and an M44. A small aresnal, but I'm workin on it.

Crap 10 years ago I had so many I had to start using a spreadsheet . Oh BTW I can still recite the serial number off of the AR15 I was assigned in basic :uhoh:

Ehh... Nope. I do have a list and photos on a CD though for the insurance company... Shoot, I guess I need to update it now....

I can rattle off serial numbers for most of them, and I own a few. Probably comes from keeping good records.

I know exactly what guns I own... where each is stored, secured... or hidden... when I last cleaned it... and what load is in it now. To me... that is all serious stuff. YMMV

I sure can't list the guns I own. I can list my favorites, or my most shot, and with a little thinking, I can think of a few more. Heck, I can't even answer how many I own, actually. I've never taken a count. I keep their info written down and stored offsite for insurance purposes, along with pictures. Now that you mention it, it's a bit disconcerting that I can't remember.

How about you? Do you know off the top of your head?

I have so little, and i am so poor, it is easy to keep track of what i have:p

Taurus pt111 9mm
Springfield .45xd 4" barrel
Remington .22 14+1
Savage 20G/.22 over under
want more:scrutiny:
Hi mom!
Send $$$ for guns:neener:

I know enough to know if I have a model of something when asked, or if I used to. If I had to sit here and list all of them, I'd probably miss one or two. I know the serial # of the ones I carry.

I guess that comes from needing to know my rifle's serial # in the Marines. Of course, those all look alike, so that's a practical necessity. I just got into the habit of wanting to know my carry gun's #, and numbers are easy for me to recall if I make the effort of commiting them to memory.

Then, there's that Remington Targetmaster that doesn't have one at all . . . those are harder to identify. The previous owner, a good friend that passed on, had his name and address written on a piece of paper stuffed under the action in the stock. I took it apart and saw that . . . Hmmmm. Doug, you were always a sly fellow.

I do have a list of firearms, serial numbers, purchase dates, etc off site in an encrypted file. I try to keep a list like that of all my big purchases for insurance reasons if nothing else.

I thought I knew what I had, then I actually counted in the safe and realized I had two more than I had tallied up in my head. Funny thing, I couldnt' figure out which ones I'd missed.
