Do you know how many firearms you own?

Like rcmodel, yes I have every firearm in a computer spreadsheet with all the pertinent information. Now, could I tell you right now how many of each type of firearm I own? No way Jose. But I could use a few more. ;)

I do not know off the top of my head the exact count, however I do have a record of each one in my safe deposit box and in my computer files. I do, however know how many of each size primer I have as I keep a postit note stuck on each ammo can so that it's inventory is easily visible. Guns are in a safe so they are not visible.

Got so many that when the bride asks "Is that a new gun" I can say "Nah it has just been in the safe"

Yep. I've played that card, too. Mine probably thinks every gun I own was made before 2000 (when we got married.)

I did have to count 'em when I saw this post, but it's a low enough number I could do it in my head (grouping by caliber.) Had to think about it a moment, as I'm actually acquiring another as I type this, technically, as a friend is selling me one. I took possession of it yesterday to check it out, and will pay him for it when I see him again at work next week.

I have owned only 23 firearms over the years. Some have been sold, though I decline to say how many.

Yes. When locking up at night, I'd just count what was left out, and then what was in the safe. For example, I'd have two HD guns in the bedroom, and a .22 1911 that stayed in the rangebag, so when I opened the safe I started the count at four.

When I came up short, I'd have to try to figure out what was missing and/or why. I never lost any, but I'd have one at a gunsmith, or one in the car, etc. All accounted for before I left for work that night.

Six rifles, five shotguns, three pistols, three single action revolvers, two J frames, two N frames, one K frame, an LCR .22 and a Mosin Nagant 1895. I think that's all of them. However many that is.

Oddly enough, given my user name, only one of them is a 9. I am still a fan, but funny how things progress.

Yes, I know each firearm I own. They are cataloged but I know each in my head.
To many, but not enough. :D

Lateck,

I have a database in Access, although it's simple enough it could have been done in Excel. The last time I did a complete inventory I found I had duplicates I wasn't aware of, including three Savage 24s in 22 Mag/20ga. (Now down to one!).

It's good to keep track of the serial numbers, where they are and where they went.

I used to have more guns but then...

Yes.
Luckily our latest "Politburo" would have no interest in learning that almost half of them might equip a squad of British or Canadian soldiers
in WW2-Korea. And four of those six Enfields must share a single spike bayonet!

Did a squad consist of about six allied soldiers?

Pursuant to someone's suggestion about counting them by serial numbers, I added them all up:

9,324,437 Total

I couldn't figure out how to add in the letters on some of the serial numbers, though.

Firearms? I'd have to look at the spreadsheet to be certain of the number.

My muzzle-loaders and air guns are not firearms, but they would add around 3 dozen more to the count.

.

I am directing this question at those who have more substantial collections/accumulations ... and not asking for anyone to actually post numbers.

For a long time I have been thinking doing an inventory of my ammo, but have been putting this off because it is going to take quite a while and be a bit of a PITA.

While thinking about this, I realized that it has a long time since I knew how many firearms I own ... so I did an inventory on those, instead ... which only took ~5 minutes.

I was very surprised by the result ... I had no idea I had anywhere near that many.

Decided to pose this question for those who may have also lost track of their count.

Enjoy. :)
I have not counted them in a while.

I do now but I have no idea how many I sold since I got sick and terminated from my job in the last two years.
I can only trim the accumulation so much.

Curious isn't it . My walker loaded with 60 grains is said to be as powerful as a .357, and don't even ask about the fire part, but they aren't considered firearms. So I'm going to have to take a few off the count.
