Do you know how many firearms you own?

I do because I keep an excel spreadsheet to keep track of serial numbers and such. When I buy or sell one I amend the spreadsheet accordingly. The answer is, nowhere near enough :D

They are all recorded but the exact count would require, well, a count. :)

I do know how many I have. It's more than some and less than many others, but I'm so particular about them, I think if I had a couple hundred I'd still know.

I also keep records of them all in case of theft.

Many answers along these lines, but do you actually know, right now, w/out looking at the spreadsheet?

That is what lists and logs are for.

No need to clutter the memory cells with data that can be looked up and communicated accurately.

I don't. I do have photos of them all and ser# though. I figured if I knew an exact number it might force me to lie to my wife some day.

I think having the data stored and organized in a spreadsheet counts as "knowing".

I likewise have such a spreadsheet and I have it located at several secure locations so that, in case my hard drive crashes, I can recover it. In case some scumbag breaks into my house and steals my guns and my computer I can get to it. This is true of other information of equal importance as well.

Pistols-12
Rifles-12
Shotguns-4

Done collecting now it's time to start enjoying shooting them, dag nabbit there goes the lot over the edge of the boat. Time to start over.

Lost every one I owned in a fire/theft situation. I have since bought a handgun but it doesn't replace those lost in the above cited situation.

Well lets see------I have a list on my computer with pictures etc. I have several thumb drives with copies in different secure/obscure locations to aid in recovery if needed. I have enough of them in several different locations that I could shoot to my hearts content from one location without needing to divulge where the "others" are. FWIW I was a member of the "gun of the week club" for years when I had the excess cash to burn on fun stuff. Three figures, yeah easily more. Others here have shown pictures of more in one place than I own however. LOTS cheaper to maintain than a stock car, Cessna, or Chris Craft boat. Been there too.;)
FWIW you question your sanity when your cellar floor splits from the weight of your row of safes.:banghead:

Since my last confession about lying to my wife about what I pay for my firearms, only my priest knows for sure.

I know that she will sell them when I die, but my only fear is that she will sell them for what I told her I paid for them!

I keep an up-to-date inventory of my firearm collection. It includes everything I know about each gun and how much I think it's worth.
And yes, I know how many I currently own without looking but I'd have a VERY hard time telling you what they all are.

I was only one gun off,,,

I immediately said 40 firearms total,,,
Then I counted.

I have 41,,,
I forgot about this one.

sns-l.jpg

It was the first or second gun I bought with my own money,,,
But it was definitely my first carry piece,,,
I bought it in 1965 at a garage sale,,,
I paid a whopping $5.00 for it.

Guns are cataloged. With a quick glance know exactly how many. Speaking of which, time to laminate some more completed sheets, only 14 are laminated so far. Ammo, to heck with cataloging that. Just buy it here and there to keep it replenished.

I have more than 10 & less than 50=---I THINK

Ayup ... that parallels my thought process for years ... until today when I stopped for a moment to do a quick head (muzzle?) count.

I knew that I needed to thin this herd, some, but Good Grief! I reeeeeeeally need to thin this herd, some.

Time to get busy with that and heat up my Gunbroker account again.

Sometimes counting them is difficult. For example, I have a Thompson Contender frame and 6 different barrels. I have 3 stripped lower receivers in my safe as well. I'm never sure how to account for such situations - is the T/C one gun or 6? Are serialized lowers anything to me?

The confusion that I have is a fun kind of puzzle and so I don't worry about it too much!!

My grand dad and father left me a bunch of them they were old but some of them were still unfired but I was afraid of them so sold them to our local police department GOT $50.00 apice fer them boy was I happy
