Since a trigger happy mod locked the thread before I could get time to dig up the regs, here's a couple FAA regs about arming aircraft. I'm not gonna copy the whole regs, you can look them up and read if you like.

Operating a drone that has a dangerous weapon attached to it is a violation of Section 363 of the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act

While there is not a specific FAA reg about mounting guns to full sized aircraft, it is already addressed under 14 CFR part 43. Any alteration of a certified aircraft requires inspection and certification by FAA. Or it could be certified as a restricted experimental aircraft, which means it could only be flown at specific times or special events under special permits. ( good luck getting an FAA inspector to sign off on either).

At first blush I'd be betting that if we ever see enterprising types (with little concern for legalities...) adding weapons to something that flies... it will be on drones. Wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that DoD might actually have a bit of research underway in that direction already...

It was already being used by insurgents in both Iraq and Afghanistan when the US occupied those countries. The most common attack was simple explosives (re-tasked 40mm grenade warheads and similar) being carried by quad rotor type UAV and then dropped on coalitions forces.
