Foxnews Alert: Gunman on VA Tech campus

I'm currently a student at Virginia Tech as well. Luckily I was not on campus when this happened.

Right now it's looking very bad. Local news here is reporting 20 fatlities. They are also reporting that the shooter is dead as well. There is alot of confusing info coming in but I will keep you updated. Please keep all of us up here in Blacksburg in you prayers.
 
They say it justifies a ban, we just need to push back and say it calls for a repeal of "gun free zones." How many people could have been saved if one of the people on campus had a gun and stopped the gunman in his tracks?

It would have taken one CCW holder. Trust me, not all faculty, staff, and students are unarmed, just the vast majority unfortunately.

Personally I think/hope the local media is confusing causality and fatality (trust me, they're quite capable of that).

I was guessing it is was drug related because earlier it sounded like only one person was shot in a dorm.
 
i've never seen a college campus that allows guns on it. it's statutory in a lot of states, for public and private schools. there was a shooting where i'm at now some years ago, and people mocked one of the old IT guys who's ex-military who said that it would not have happened how it did had they allowed him to carry to work. people are ignorant, and it's a real shame that this sort of evidence of how gun control doesn't work just causes more gun control that works even worse.

Not likely unless we're talking about the perp post-drug/alcohol binge.

Also could be an undergard/grad student who snapped. I recall a grad student
who snapped and killed a prof.
 
In VA

In VA, it is not illegal to carry on campus. They can ask you to leave, if you don't then it becomes trespassing. However, it can be against school policy, so you can get expelled/fired.

Not commenting on weapon/s

20 confirmed dead - 1 in first incident - rest in second incident in multiple rooms in second building.

No evidence right now that the 2 incidents are related. 1 gunman confirmed dead. Unknown if there is a second at this time.

From what they said the shooter went from classroom to classroom shooting people in the classrooms.

Former FBI guy on Fox News said it sounded like the first person in the first building was targeted as they were on the 4th floor and the only one killed in that building.

I have Foxnews on in my office.

What I can figure out is:

1. They are saying it was a handgun

2. They say he had magazines hanging from his clothing.

3. Looks like 20 dead currently, and 17 being treated.

4. It appears that some of the shootings occured earlier this morning.

5. They are already asking how the person got all this ammuntion and the gun. Not good.

6. They are claiming that there was one shooter instead of two --which was said earlier.

7. May be related to bomb threats that the campus has gotten over the last few weeks.

8. Shoot is dead. They are saying it was an "Asian-looking" man.

9. Said that he had bandoliers of ammunition on some kind of vest.

10. 20 are confirmed dead... more may come.

11. Shootings occured in a number of buildings, not just one.

They are saying at least 20dead and 21 wounded. The shooter is one of the dead. My heart and prayers go out to family, friend, and classmates of those involved.
 
Fox reports that the firearm was a handgun. They are saying "at least 20" persons dead, students and others. I believe Fox said it was an oriental kid (young man) who was the shooter and who is now one of the dead.
 
some are reporting 22 dead , 28 wounded . Shooters name appairently is William Morva an asian looking young man . I wonder if its another case of sudden Jihad syndrome myself.

The wounded, dead, and their loved ones will be in my prayers tonight.

One small piece of good news: a disarmed undergrad could have easily figured out how to make nitroglycerin instead, especially with easy access to lab equipment (and probably the right grade of nitric acid). A few improvised blasting caps, liter sized coke bottles filled with homemade dynamite/plastique/slurry, and the right mindset could have been much more devastating.

Not that this is much consolation to those involved. :(
